Another day; another terrible temperature made all the worse because I had to get up earlyearlyearly to take Casey to the vet to get fixed. He needs a more complicated procedure than usual and I'm worried for the little dude.

The last couple of days have also got me wondering about Americans and temperature. Y'all know you're the only ones who use °F, right? So everyone else's -37 (or -5, or 13, etc) is pretty different from yours?

RaimeyGallant Farenheit is so last century. ;) 6y
xicanti (Actually, I think -37 might be pretty close in either, because one of the two things I know about Fahrenheit is that -40°F is the same as -40°C. Then again, my mum tells me -50°C matches up with like -63°F so I have no idea how the scale works.) 6y
xicanti @RaimeyGallant I mean, who starts counting from 32? 6y

Patchshank Yes. I think most of us are are aware. I hope all goes well with surgery. I'm sure everything will be fine and you have no need to worry. ❤️ 6y
xicanti @Patchshank the vet scheduled it for today so she'd have a colleague on hand in case of issues. I'm looking at that as a good sign. 6y
RaimeyGallant Hugs to Casey. 6y
RaimeyGallant @xicanti It's pseudoscience. ;) 6y
Bradleygirl Yeah F° and C° coincide at -40. I used Fahrenheit since I was born US but living in northern Russia in the 1990s got me used to Celsius... And that temperature 😬 6y
xicanti @Bradleygirl I plan to avoid ever going that far north. Brrrrrr. 6y
Chrissyreadit Brrr. I did not know they meet at -40. I just always deduct 32. But I could be doing it wrong? Either way - at those numbers it‘s cold. And I wish we used Celsius 6y
alisiakae Yep, we know. I do find it annoying, esp after living in Australia and getting used to the metric system, including C. I hope Casey does well! 6y
xicanti @Chrissyreadit yesterday I saw a bunch of Americans saying stuff like their temperature was 7 with a windchill of -20, which is basically impossible in Celcius, so the conversion rate much be pretty complicated. 6y
xicanti @4thhouseontheleft Casey thanks you! 6y
Chrissyreadit Now I have brushed up on temp- I was way off, and it‘s all confusing. Apparently K is the only one that is truly accurate. 🤣❄️❄️❄️❄️ 6y
twohectobooks @xicanti @Chrissyreadit IIRC, one degree F is 6/9ths of one degree C. There‘s a fairly simple conversion formula but I can never remember it. 6y
twohectobooks And good luck with the vet! 6y
tournevis ºF are so last millenium. 😋 @RaimeyGallant 6y
tournevis This said, it's way colder in your area than in mine today. Please bundle up. Layers. 6y
xicanti @tournevis @RaimeyGallant I always say the people who understand Fahrenheit are Americans, probably some scientists, and the 65+ crowd. 6y
xicanti @tournevis I'm basically a stuffed animal in my wool coat and my sweater and my hat and my hood and my down mitts. 6y
RaimeyGallant @xicanti @tournevis Gabriel Daniel Farenheit called from the 18th century. Even he's switched to metric. 6y
tournevis @RaimeyGallant 😋😋😋 6y
Nebklvr Yes, we know. I spend a lot of time doing conversions. Meters to miles too. Apparently, just HAD to be different (edited) 6y
Chrissyreadit @RaimeyGallant 🤣 @twohectobooks Thanks- I did find it, I do wish we all used the metric system- and got rid of daylight savings time while we are at it... 6y
Chrissyreadit @xicanti do people talk about wind chill in Celsius? (I know silly question- but I am curious) 6y
Chrissyreadit @xicanti and how is your Casey doing? 6y
xicanti @Nebklvr I'm okay with kilometre to mile conversions, but I have zero clue how Fahrenheit works. I know 32 is the same as 0, -40 is the same as -40, and 100 is hot. Everything in between is a mystery. 6y
xicanti @Chrissyreadit we do! The Feels Like temperature in the graphic is the windchill, which has since dropped to -45. Not good at all. And wee Casey was SUPER HAPPY to see all his friends at the vet. He may change his mind after the procedure. 6y
WhatThePuck All we'd have to do is change our preference on our weather app. It doesn't really make much difference to me if it's -28°C or -18°F. It would be hard to adjust to saying we're having a heat wave and it feels like 40°C. 😂😂 I hope Casey does well! 6y
twohectobooks @Chrissyreadit @RaimeyGallant here in Saskatchewan we have permanent daylight savings and I love it (sun is highest at ~1 pm instead of noon all year). This is one of the few times we‘re ahead of the curve I think—I recently discovered China and India both don‘t have DST and I‘m convinced that‘s the way of the future lol. 6y
xicanti @WhatThePuck Casey's surgery was a success! Whew! 6y
Chrissyreadit @twohectobooks that is very interesting. It makes use of daylight and easy adjustment. 6y

And now, my second short story of the day alongside some cantaloupe with whipped cream and no-sugar caramel sauce (because I guess that's a thing).

I'm also sorta-kinda obsessively checking to see if my #cupidgoespostal giftee safely received their package, since Canada Post says it was delivered this afternoon.

twohectobooks I‘m sooo tempted to renew my Asimov‘s subscription. I used to get it around the same time as this issue and I miss the regular dose of short sf. 6y
xicanti @twohectobooks I thought about getting a subscription a few years back, but I'm horrendous at keeping up with magazines so I decided to buy back issues instead. I've had this one kicking around for I don't even know how long (3 years? 5? More?), so I figure that was the right choice. 6y

xicanti @twohectobooks I did have a digital subscription to F&SF long, long ago, and I've still got 7-10 unread issues. Eep. 6y
writerlibrarian It's came in from the cold today. 💜💜💜💜 6y
xicanti @writerlibrarian I figured there was a good chance it was too cold for you to go out to your postbox yesterday! 6y
writerlibrarian @xicanti we have a snow storm yesterday, about 20cm with wind, hence no stop at the postbox. Today was cold but clear 6y

I picked this up yesterday. I haven‘t read short form in a very long time. What fun! Tight, well written stories. Maybe I‘ll subscribe. #shortstory #shortstories #magazine
