"It's the rarest author who can pull off laugh-out-loud hilarious, profound, and breathlessly romantic, all in the most sparkling prose. That shortlist includes Rainbow Rowell, Nicola Yoon, and now, Carlie Sorosiak."--Jeff Zentner, Morris Award-winning author of The Serpent King and Goodbye DaysLast June, the summer camp Quinn's family owns in Winship, Maine, was still a magical place. A place where wild blueberries grew no matter the season, a legendary sea monster lurked in the waters, and Quinn fell in love with her best friend, Dylan. Then the accident happened. Now it's winter, the magic has drained from Quinn's life, and she knows it's her fault. But the new boy in town, Alexander, doesn't see her as the monster she believes herself to be. As Quinn lets herself open up again, she begins to understand the truth about love, loss, and monsters--real and imagined. This wondrous novel about love, loss, and moving on is perfect for fans of Morgan Matson and Jenny Han.Praise for If Birds Fly Back "A sweet love story with plenty of emotional heft. Fans of brainy romance will likely like this one." --Booklist"An engrossing combination of romance and self-discovery." --Publishers Weekly

"But as you know, in all camp stories, there are monsters.
In this one, there are two.
The sea monster.
And me."
While that's an attention grabbing statement, it isn't entirely accurate. In this story there are four monsters. The sea monster. The girl. Her guilt. And her grief.
WBW is a beautiful book about a girl & her family struggling to keep their heads above water after the death of a loved one. Full review on IG. Highly recommend this one!

Ask anyone in Winship, Maine, and they‘ll tell you the camp Quinn‘s family owns is a magical place. Paper wishes hang from the ceiling. Blueberries grow in the dead of winter. According to local legend, a sea monster lurks off the coast. There‘s just a feeling that something extraordinary could happen.
As Quinn lets herself open up again, she begins to understand the truth about love, loss, and monsters—real and imagined.

An unexpected good YA read that takes you on a journey you don‘t expect to go. Quinn Sawyer‘s parents own a camp where she and her siblings - Reed and Fern - spend their summers immersed in the work and the lake. Set in Maine, this story flips from the previous July to current December. The swings in season make that back and forth transition easy to follow. That July was life changing for Quinn and after six months she‘s facing her fears.

This book is amazingly campy...love...heartache...loss...family...survival and laughs all in one. A book of firsts, lasts, and everything in-between.

Wow, I never expected to fall into YA books the way that I have but add this one to the list! So incredibly good. Quinn‘s grief was so truly palpable that it was hard to get through at times. Incredible book though!

This was a book about love, loss, and grief with a little hint of magic tossed it. The setting is a camp in winter. Great characters and story told in a then and now format. I kinda loved it and highly recommend it. 💙
Also did you know Japanese puffer fish create sand mandalas to attract mates? I learned that in this book and it is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen in nature.
