#BookMail Pt6 Yet Another @SavidgeReads recommendation, this is s short story collection all about love, conception, gestation & birth. All are touched with a bit of strange, such as Atria in which a pregnant teenager believes she will give birth to animals instead of a baby & Tributaries where people grow a new arm every time they fall in love. Funny, sad & all beautiful.
My little sister will be giving birth any day now. I re-read this book of birth-themed stories in honor of her and my new nephew. The stories are kinda hit or miss, imo. The ones that are good are really good, but there are plenty of blah ones mixed in.
bailedI appreciate the author's skill, but these are too bizarre for me.
pickFull of strangeness, beauty, sadness, and weirdness. Stories of intense imagery and otherworldly situations, but still recognizable emotions of love, heartache, and loneliness, just seen in a tinted light.
I would be lying if I said I didn't buy some of these #shortstories solely for the covers. In fact, I dislike short stories 90% of the time 😂 still worth it!

I read seven books this month to try to make up for my really slow reading month in September. Thankfully, I had a road trip, which allowed for some good audiobook time.
pickThese short stories made me ugly cry twice & tear up another time. Some stories are stranger than others. There's a ghost, a man who grows a cabinet in his chest, a ship with confused grandmas on it, and a world where people grow arms only when they love someone.
The stories are about how our bodies & our selves are not entirely our own. How we belong to others & how the loss of others affects us. Her writing is stunning and surprising.
This book cover is lovely and so far the stories inside match. 😍

A few days after hearing about this on that Drunk Bookseller podcast, looky looky! I found it among about 1,000 English-language sale books (5 bucks each) at a Tokyo bookstore! And, no, I didn't just buy this one!
Heard just now on Drunk Booksellers podcast: "If you're interested in reading anything where a story ends with a boy jumping on top of his parents' bed right after they finished having sex, dumping out the ashes of their dead cat onto them," then you'll love this book! Hmmm...let's try it!
