Cute, funny, violent, and I read her with Timmy Turner's voice. I'm ready for volume 2!

What will define our generation? Page 4 and already in love with the writing in this book.
I had zero interest in reading this book throughout the original hype, but the Netflix show looks good so I'll give it a try!
I haven't seen the movie yet, but based on the trailer I think this may be one of those rare instances where the movie is better than the book. Maybe in the movie Mae won't be such a flat character incapable of thinking for herself? Harsh, but I didn't think this book was anything special. It was obviously trying to be a modern 1984, but fell flat in my opinion.
It's not quite grabbing me like I'd hoped, but there's still time. That being said, who could realistically watch that SeeChange presentation and not have some serious reservations?! Twice he even says "imagine the implications."
The only problem with this book is that the people who need to read it most, probably won't.
This book is worthy of all the praise and hype. It has been several years since I read The Reluctant Fundamentalist and I had forgotten the beauty of Mohsin Hamid's writing.
Is Mohsin Hamid a Lost fan, or is this just a coincidence?! I know Sayid is different from Saeed, but it still made me pause. Now, on to page 2.
I think this will be my new "go to" baby shower gift. I want everyone to read this book!
It reminded me so much of an adult version of The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. The beginning was heartbreaking, and the end satisfying. I started losing interest a bit in the middle, but then it managed to hook me again pretty quickly.
I couldn't agree with this more. Founding father worship drives me crazy.
"...still as a nation, we worship the very slave owners who gave legal precedence to the notion of percentages of human beings."
What a fantastic collection of stories! I usually have to take my time with short story collections because I don't like reading the different stories one after another, but I didn't want to put this one down. This is an author whose work I'll be reading ASAP as he publishes new books.
I won a Goodreads giveaway! I can't wait to read and review these.
I think this was the most realistic and terrifying dystopia I've ever read. Five stars, one of my favorites of the year, and I can't wait to pick up Parable of the Talents!
This series should be required reading in middle school and high school. Anyone who has ever sat out an election and taken their right to vote for granted should especially read book three.
I have to admit to feeling lost at some parts. This is one that probably deserves a reread at some point to be better understood.
I enjoyed this so much more than I expected! I Love Deadpool and the concept of Gwenpool sounded cool, but I wasn't overly impressed with Spider-Gwen so I didn't get my hopes up too high. It was great, though, and I'm now the proud owner of this Gwenpool pop and a cool tee.
As much as I love new books, I think I love used books even more. There's nothing like reading a book already filled with someone else's notes, highlights, and underlining. 🖤
I'm reading all Toni Morrison's fiction in publication order this year. Next up is Sula!
This book was absolutely heartbreaking. I was emotional while reading this because it represents reality for so many people around the world.
At a time when all I do is listen to NPR and stress over our current political situation, this book was the perfect escape from reality.
Loved it! This was such an enjoyable read.
This is the best short story collection I've read in a long time! Just when I was starting to think I wasn't a fan of short stories anymore, this one found me.
Emotional, powerful, and unfortunately still very relevant. It shows both how far this country has come, and how far it still has to go. I can't wait to pick up books two and three.
...Anyone who thinks one book has all the answers hasn't read enough books.
This kind of writing really ruined the book for me.
Somehow I didn't realize this was YA before picking it up. Not my usual genre, but it's a decent read so far.
3.5/5 stars. It made me laugh a little, and made me tear up quite a bit. Sometimes it gets repetitive, though, and seems like blog posts meant to be read days or weeks apart instead of one after another in book format. I enjoyed it overall, though, and would recommend picking it up.
Less than 100 pages in and I've already teared up several times, and had a few laughs, too.
Finally reading this while Izak enjoys his movie for book club.
With children, everything's already happening and then over with. It happens while you're trying to keep up and gone by the time you arrive at things.
I loved this book! My only concern was that the story was told from two different points of view, but the voices were very similar and sometimes hard to tell apart. The overall story, though, was interesting and had great pacing. I'm going to have my 10-year-old read it next. Definitely pick it up!
I'm usually a fan of bigger, more colorful art in graphic novels, so I wasn't sure how much I'd like this once I looked inside. I just finished the first story, though, and I really liked it. The quiet, subdued art really fit with the quirky story.
That was part of being a girl - you were resigned to whatever feedback you'd get. If you got mad, you were crazy, and if you didn't react, you were a bitch. The only thing you could do was smile from the corner they'd backed you into. Implicate yourself in the joke even if the joke was always on you
I've read other books by Chris Cleave and really enjoyed them. The writing in this one was different, though, and I couldn't get through it.
I really wanted to like this collection of stories. I enjoyed the writing, the themes, and certain aspects of most of the stories. If you asked me to choose a favorite, though, I couldn't. I'll read more Oyeyemi, but I'm starting to think short story collections are not for me.
All that time I had spent readying myself, the articles that taught me life was really just a waiting room until someone noticed you - the boys had spent that time becoming themselves.
Intense, dark and sometimes disturbing. I'll be reviewing it more in depth on my blog very soon. I recommend it, though!
