Initially I really enjoyed the book. Then for me, it became too convoluted with layers of Dante‘s purgatory. I have read excerpts of Dante‘s Divine Comedy, so although I followed the journey the whole plot was a little too much. I enjoyed his first book, but not this one in the end. It was just a “so-so”for me.

My son surprised me with a delivery from nearby Starbucks so I am taking a break from teaching and enjoying the bird song, and morning quiet, except for an occasional car driving by. Grateful for Robert‘s thoughtful gesture.

Only on page 50 and I have encountered Robert Browning, Christina Rossetti,Alfred Tennyson, John Forster. Read a letter to Longfellow from Oliver Wendell Holmes. Elizabeth Barrett Browning is mourned. Charles Dickens is alluded to. Dante Gabriel Rossetti ( brother to Christina), artist & poet, is missing. I am having the best time with these literary figures, artists,& public servants.

A quiet peace but for bird song this morning and church bells. I am grateful for this stolen time before the day awakens to its bustle.
Thank you @JoScho for suggesting this.

Sunny and warm today, slight breeze. Enjoying my porch in just a tee shirt, zip sweatshirt &flip flops! ☕️📚👍🏻
I love @JoScho ‘s idea! I hope to post when I can; given my online teaching schedule can get out of control. New strategy: work 45 min; break 15. Need to clear my spinning head!!!#teachersoflitsy today I am grateful that I had my first google meet with a student with complex disabilities & we had such fun!!! #marvelousmay
After a long reading slump brought on by depression (damned beast), I have finally read again, and I cannot imagine a better novel by which I could enjoy reading again!
Mystery, history, murder, and poetry--how can there be a better combination?
I loved The Dante Club- however, although it was steeped in Dante‘s Divine Comedy it wasn‘t as steeped as this sequel. Wow- I am just not as interested in the minutia of Dante‘s Purgatory. If you are a Dante Scholar this is the book for you! Not bad but took me a long time to get through it- slow slogging for me but not a dnf. 2.5⭐️
Whiskey and I are taking advantage of the almost spring-like weather here to read and lounge outside!🐾💖#DogsofLitsy
First up on my library hold list- had to hurry over to check it out as we have a double threat today- Hurricane storms and Trump will be downtown Nashville this afternoon- the same thing! Library closing early due to both! Loved the Dante Club and now Robert Browning, Alfred Tennyson, Oliver Wendell Holmes and Dante Gabriel Rossetti are back!
One more for all you historical readers!!!! The Devils Reward looks good and so does Love and Ruin and the Dante Chamber!!! If you want to be transported into the past check this list out! ❤️📚
I completely fangirled over hearing Matthew Pearl talk tonight. He was hilarious! The tagged book will be released in June and is a sequel to The Dante Club.
He signed this to me, “Repent,” in reference to the subject matter. And, my heart fluttered when he mentioned Christina Rossetti was in the book!
