I have read this book with my PDS classes before and I always ask probing questions throughout the story and afterwards and I‘m always blown away by the wonderful things my students come up with.

Picture book. Published 2018. This is a great read that is very common in many classrooms today. It teaches children the importance of loving yourself while also respecting others and treating others with kindness. Self-esteem is a huge issue for many children and it‘s important to me to teach them how they can love themselves from a young age to carry in with them.
Absolutely loved this book that teaches of respect and kindness for everyone.
Poetry. This is a beautiful book of rhyming poetry book. I found myself focusing more on the message behind the rhymes and poem. Which I found is that everyone is worth of respect and we should show kindness to others. This book beautifully delivers that massage through simple rhyme and simile.
I absolutely love this book, it really teaches children that although we all might not look alike, we still shine bright and are loved. Every child needs to know that they‘re loved by someone. 🤍
Published in 2018, this story was a Goodreads choice awards picture book winner. This is a great story about a young girl who discovers that she is enough regardless of her looks and attributes. This story encourages children to show kindness and recognize that everyone is unique in their own ways. I would read this story to my future classroom because it shows students that we are all different but all have so much to offer to the classroom.

📚 BANNED BOOK ALERT 📚
Every few years, it seems a school I am affiliated with actively works to suppress diverse voices. 😤 This year, it's my alma mater, Central York School District (CYSD) in York, PA. I attended K-12 there, & the school board recently decided to ban everything on a 4 pg document released by its own diversity committee.
A friend & fellow alumni is gathering banned book donations for the FLL near one of the elem schools. ⬇
This New York Times bestseller is a poetry story all about loving who you are. This story would be great for choral reading because who doesn‘t love positive affirmations?! UDL 3.2 and 1.2. ESOL strategies #11 and #3 #ucflae3414sp21
#JumpIntoJanuary Day 17: Empowering and inspirational picturebooks like this one can prove to be our #Salvation especially during times of divisiveness and chaos. I also appreciated the white spaces that are easy on the eyes – and I like the image above of the studious young girl, determined to learn all she can through books. This P book by Grace Byers and pictures by Keturah A. Bobo is about finding acceptance to love who you are, how to be respectful and kind to one another. This book would be great for a CR as it goes to a rhyme so it‘s something that everyone can sing along to. #ucflae3414f19

“I know we don‘t look the same: our eyes, our hair, our look, our frame.”
I loved this book. I think it‘s an amazing book to read to children, especially in a very diverse classroom. I will definitely be adding this book to my classroom.
Many books (especially children‘s books) don‘t recognize those of all different abilities, races, and genders. This book hit the mark on every single level of inclusivity.
I am enough by Grace Byers, published in 2018, is a book that everyone should take a moment to read. It is important to teach kids about loving their differences, and this story is a good way of getting that very idea through to them. While as a society we have made great strides in order to better our community, we still need to continue to push through on our standards to make it a more equal, loving word.
Great book to bring about great discussion for children. I can see using this in a classroom. It could even be used as a daily starter to each day to remind students about diversity and loving yourself.
I‘m in a 😾 mood, so I‘m finishing the day with some upbeat kid‘s lit.

The 2018 GR Picture Book Winner. I liked the celebration of girl power, although the title doesn‘t quite go along with the text. But I finished it with a smile on my face, the positive messaging that promotes diversity, compassion and self-love is for all ages!

I love the light use of color as well as the white background. I think this really makes the illustrations relatable and pop out.
The structure of the writing in the book is repetitive in a unique way. They don‘t rhyme exactly but they tend to be close or use similar types of words. The text goes sentence by sentence along with illustrations which makes it easy to follow and understand.
