The Trials of Apollo, Book One: The Hidden Oracle
The Trials of Apollo, Book One: The Hidden Oracle | Rick Riordan
How do you punish an immortal? By making him human. After angering his father Zeus, the god Apollo is cast down from Olympus. Weak and disoriented, he lands in New York City as a regular teenage boy. Now, without his godly powers, the four-thousand-year-old deity must learn to survive in the modern world until he can somehow find a way to regain Zeus's favor. But Apollo has many enemiesgods, monsters, and mortals who would love to see the former Olympian permanently destroyed. Apollo needs help, and he can think of only one place to go . . . an enclave of modern demigods known as Camp Half-Blood.

Okay. These books are my whole personality now. I‘ve loved all the Rick Riordan books I‘ve read. But Apollo as a narrator just hits right for me - SO funny. The weird thing is, my 14 year old son does not like them. He‘s too much of a Gilderoy Lockhart type, for him. But my 11 year old daughter and I are ALL ABOUT them. Loving how favorite characters from other books are included. Brilliant! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It took me a little bit to get into this one, but Apollo is a hilarious narrator! I enjoyed watching him grow from a self-absorbed moron to a a place where he realizes how his self-inflated ego is alienating the people he cares about the most. I will be 100% honest, Meg drove me up the wall.

This book is about Apollo angering his father Zeus and sent to earth as a moral in New York. Without his power, Apollo is sent to free the oracles with Meg and that the Beast does not get to control all the orcales. If you like books of fantasy you may like this book. The point of view is first person and it is established by the author to tell the story of a view of what Apollo who became a moral to think of the life of morals

Warning, this review will be extremely unpopular. Please don‘t kill me. Personally, I found the two main characters insufferable. I wanted to DNF this book until the two thirds point. At this time the main character started to change and evolve. People have said that the first book is the worst one but still, I don‘t know if I will continue with this series.

This went quickly - finished it today between kiddo‘s speech therapy and dance classes. Apollo is incredibly irritating, which is the point. Mortal as punishment for his role in the Heroes of Olympus debacle, Apollo has a lot of work to do to get himself back to Olympus and godhood. Betrayal, personal growth, cameos from old friends - really enjoyed this.

As a child, #PercyJackson meant the world to me. Two years ago, I bought all 5 series by #RickRiordan and re-read the original 5 books with Percy. I continued with The Lost Hero and then later The Kane Chronicles, but I couldn‘t get into either of them. I‘ve decided to skip both of them for now & continue with Apollo.

I quite liked this book and enjoyed Apollo‘s way of storytelling throughout the book. I‘m excited to read the next book and overall was glad to see the return of the demigods we know and love! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

GingerAntics I‘ve had my eye on that box set. Have you read the series before? I‘ve read the Percy Jackson series (all of the first one and part of the second), so I‘m thinking I‘ll probably like this one, too. 4y

With a slightly different tone than previous demigod books (our narrator is a fallen god, after all), I found this one really funny and Meg and Apollo are surprisingly endearing. (Bonus: the return of a certain character I've been waiting for.)

I have been reading Rick Riordan‘s books for a long time now. I am both excited and sad to read the final series in his Percy Jackson Universe. My first book of the year is guaranteed to be a fun one! I was going to call this read through “Year with Riordan” but since there are only five books I think I‘m going to just call it #FarewellPercy

Apollo is turned mortal and sent to Earth to rescue his oracles. He meets Meg, who saves him from being beaten up and claims his service. They travel to Camp Half-Blood with the help of Percy Jackson. Meg is my least favorite character Rick has ever written, but I have been really enjoying this series so far.

Sweetkokoro Oh I am glad to know I'm not the only one who does not care for Meg, there is just something about her that grates on my nerves. 4y

I admit I put off reading Riordan for a long time, due to Greek mythology and Classics not only being my area of scholarship, but also the subject of the fantasy series I‘m writing. That means I get VERY picky about how the gods and myths are rewritten. However, this book was so FUN! That‘s all I can say. Just a hoot! And I respect the heck out of Riordan for all his research. Is his take on Apollo different than mine? Yes. But still loved it!

I love how well Riordan weaves ancient mythology into modern day! And his characters are hilarious. It was fun to watch Apollo grow and learn throughout the book. I loved that he had made changes by the end, but still had some of his old thinking. Felt more relatable. Overall another fun Riordan book!

Great book.
Immortal god becomes mortal teenager. And every enemy he had as a God wants a piece of him.
Not gonna spoil anything, but it's a pretty good start to this series, and really ramps up the stakes for a former immortal, as he realises how little power he now has.

Call me silly but I probably should have read all the other series prior to this one haha. I have heard of Percy Jackson I never read his series & I didn‘t think they would constantly reference from Percy‘s series but it does. For its targeted age range I can see why it‘s popular, but for me there was just to many real world references that just got annoying. Apollo is well written though, Meg was flat & annoying for me. I‘ll keep reading though.

Shley9225 Wow, when I read this I didn‘t notice that it referenced PJO that much 😂 I actually thought it did a pretty good job of standing alone but that‘s just me apparently 6y
Shley9225 And also 😱😱😱 you HAVEN‘T read PJO yet? *gasp* 6y
Sweetkokoro @Shley9225 haha no I haven‘t you think I would have since I love tales around the gods haha. I did put in a hold for it at my library hopefully I‘ll have it soon. And yah it kept references people and events and I was like “ummmmm okay” haha. Maybe it felt more Stand alone for you since you read the prior works haha. 6y
Shley9225 @Sweetkokoro Probably ? those books were my childhood, so it would be like referencing Pokémon—commonplace knowledge! And ahh I‘m so excited can‘t wait to hear what you think :D 6y
Sweetkokoro @Shley9225 I was in my last year of high school when the first PJO was released so it missed my radar haha. But I‘m actually excited to read it, I‘ll definitely make sure to post my thoughts! 6y

Growing up with “Percy Jackson” has made me long for the world of gods and magic. Now, many years later, my childhood is coming to full circle with “The Trials of Apollo” series.

Uncle Rick, thank you so much for the best childhood ever. I‘ll be waiting for every book you write.

3.5 ⭐️; it was fun, and the haiku that opened each chapter were hilarious. But overall, for me, it seemed to be missing the special something that made me love the Percy series, the Heroes of Olympus, and the Magnus Chase series.
