The Curse of the Wendigo
The Curse of the Wendigo | Rick Yancey, William James Henry
While attempting to disprove that Homo vampiris, the vampire, could exist, Dr. Warthrop is asked by his former fiance to rescue her husband from the Wendigo, a creature that starves even as it gorges itself on human flesh, which has snatched him in the Canadian wilderness. Although Warthrop also considers the Wendigo to be fictitious, he relents and rescues her husband from death and starvation, and then sees the man transform into a Wendigo. Can the doctor and Will Henry hunt down the ultimate predator, who, like the legendary vampire, is neither living nor dead, whose hunger for human flesh is never satisfied? This second book in The Monstrumologist series explores the line between myth and reality, love and hate, genius and madness.

According to GR, it‘s been 5 years since I read The Monstrumologist, the first book in this series and I regret that. I listened to most of this on audio and highly recommend it. In book 2, Pellinor Warthorpe and his assistant, Will Henry, are after the Outiko or Wendigo. This is a YA series, but it is dark and gory and this one had some heartbreak. Warthorpe and Will both get quite a bit of character development in this one. 💗 #Screamathon

Bookzombie These books are set in the late 1800s and Yancey makes you feel like you are there. For example, there is a section where he goes into detail about the filth in the streets of New York City. He talks about “the hour of filth” when chamber pots across the city are emptied directly onto the streets and the amount of waste the horses produced every day. It makes you wonder how humans actually survived. It‘s disgusting, but also fascinating. (edited) 3y
vivastory I love these books! I started this series about a month ago & only have book 4 left. These books are so dark.. 3y

Bookzombie @Reggie So gross! 3y
Reggie Ok so I thought of you and this post today because they were talking about the origin of the word shitfaced which came from if you stayed out too late drinking when people threw their chamber pots out the window sometimes it landed on your drunk face. Grossssss!!!! Lol 🤢 (edited) 3y
Bookzombie Uh, thanks for thinking of me? Lol j/k That is so gross 🤢 , but I also can‘t wait to share the info with my husband. 🤣 3y

Thanks, @rubyslippersreads. I am usually terrible at doing these, but in hardcore procrastination mode right now!

1. In my heart of hearts, I am a dog person. In the reality of the last decade or so, I have been a cat person (and I love my cranky feline, but still).
2. Order amidst chaos, nightly phone calls with my mom, and perfect snacks.

Not as great a follow up to the original story, but worth reading for the character development of will Henry and the monstrumologist.

I love it when a book surprises me. I never would have guessed this series would be filled with so much humor, so much beautiful writing, and such great characters. I highly recommend the audio. The narrator is great! A warning though, it's kind of gory too.

It's too difficult to pick just one #FantasticCharacter in this series, so I'm calling it a tie between Dr. Pellinore Warthrop and Will Henry. #AprilAmazingReads

The authenticity of the era and the characters in these books is astounding. I was wholly sucked into the story in no time.

And the plot was so intriguing! The Monstrumologist and The Curse of the Wendigo were so different even though they take place right after the other time-wise. I loved that. I loved that it wasn't repetitive. The characters are consistent in all that they do but the situations couldn't have been more different.

Books4Ever I really want to read this one 😊 8y

I read this paragraph multiple times and then had to share it. Absolutely love it. Yancey's writing is phenomenal.

Very wordy and wandering. The endings always make up for the slow start. I really like Will Henry and I want to know what his story is. Will continue with the series.
