Mouse Guard Volume 1: Fall 1152
Mouse Guard Volume 1: Fall 1152 | David Petersen
In the world of Mouse Guard, mice struggle to live safely and prosper amongst harsh conditions and a host of predators. Thus the Mouse Guard was formed: more than just soldiers that fight off intruders, they are guides for common mice looking to journey without confrontation from one hidden village to another. The Guard patrol borders, find safeways and paths through dangerous territories and treacherous terrain, watch weather patterns, and keep the mouse territories free of predatory infestation. They do so with fearless dedication so that they might not just exist, but truly live. Saxon, Kenzie and Lieam, three such Guardsmice, are dispatched to find a missing merchant mouse that never arrived at his destination. Their search for the missing mouse reveals much more than they expect, as they stumble across a traitor in the Guard's own ranks.

I loved the color palette in this one, but didn‘t connect with the story. So I won‘t be rushing out to read the next installments anytime soon.

Eyelit I had the same feeling when I read this one! 5y
Sace I read a book in this series. I agree that the colors and art are very nice, but nothing story-wise leaves interested enough to read more. 5y
AnneCecilie @Eyelit @Sace It‘s comforting to know that I‘m not the only one. 5y

My 9 year old got this yesterday. He is halfway through. My heart is soaring.

wanderinglynn What does his shirt say? I see “sorry homework,” and then what looks like a calendar with video game controllers. 😂 6y
Rissa1 @wanderinglynn it says "Sorry homework, I am all booked up." With a controller under each day 6y

The Mouse Guard are warriors that protect travelers on the dangerous roads between the heavily fortified mouse cities.

But when a trio of Guard members get wind of a conspiracy to take over Lockhaven, home of the Guard, and use the resources and weaponry there to rule mouse-kind with an iron fist, they must find a way to take down the rebel army.

Art, story, characters, and world-building were all GREAT!

TK421 This is a great book! I really enjoy this series. 7y
GondorGirl Peterson cam do no wrong in my world. This series is perfection. 7y

By Saxon‘s reckoning he, Kenzie, and the elderly Celanawe should be more than a match for the invading army.

One might call him the “Raphael” of the group.

saresmoore Ha! Good comparison. This looks fun—appropriate for elementary aged? 7y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk @saresmoore The fights actually get a little bloody. Maybe appropriate for 4th grade and up. 7y

Reading Mouse Guard while my lovely wife watches a show with Angel in it but he‘s not playing Angel but isn‘t he always playing Angel kind of?

I can‘t handle reading books while the TV‘s on, but somehow comics are easier on the brain.

vivastory I 💯 agree on both 7y
Librariana I can't either! If my husband is playing video games or watching TV, I usually kindly ask if he can don his headphones. He's a saint and knows it's hard for me to concentrate on my reading. 7y

Fantastic art, short on plot. Appropriate for a 6 or 7 year old for starting to read graphic novels.

Need a break from the heaviness of Don Quixote and Storm of Swords!

Picked up for the #readharder challenge, this graphic novel is written and illustrated by the same person. The artwork was fantastic, and throughout I felt happily nostalgic for my childhood spent reading the Redwall novels by Brian Jacques. This is definitely for older elementary age kiddos, as it was surprisingly violent and the themes of betrayal and loss are pretty deep. As an adult, I enjoyed it immensely and will pick up the rest on #hoopla.

This book was so good! The little mice were so cute but viscous too. The artwork was so beautiful. I can't wait to read more! Apparently my kitty didn't like out so much as she slept through the whole thing! 😺

I have wanted to read this for a while now. It was well worth the wait. I really enjoyed the artwork and the story kept me engaged enough. Mice really had to be tough in the dark ages. 😀🐀
