28 posts | 28 read | 21 to read
American-born spy and code-breaker extraordinaire Maggie Hope must solve a baffling series of murders among a group of captive agents on an isolated Scottish island as the acclaimed World War II mystery series from New York Times bestselling author Susan Elia MacNeal continues. Maggie Hope is being held prisoner on a remote Scottish island with other SOE agents who know too much for the enemy's comfort. All the spies on the island are trained to kill--and when they start dropping off one-by-one, Maggie needs to find the murderer... before she becomes the next victim.

Maggie Hope is imprisoned on a remote Scottish island with other specially trained British agents who know too much. Then people start dying. Sounds fascinating and the setting is indeed fabulous, but this book was a dud for me. MacNeal basically announces at the start that she‘s going to rip off Ten Little Indians then proceeds to do so, with an uninspired ending. This is my 2nd try with this author and she‘s not for me.

Zipped through another Maggie Hope mystery. I just can't get enough of tough ladies kicking Nazi ass! In this adventure, Maggie is trapped on a Scottish island at a facility to imprison spies who know too much and/or aren't safe to be around others. An entertaining re-working of Agatha Christie's "And Then There Were None."

Love MacNeil ‘s style and setting detail here. Also love how the British run on tea, too. 🥰 I am down to my last PG tips teabag, good gracious! Grocery emergency!!

This might be my favorite Maggie Hope novel yet! I really like the narrator of the audiobooks, which is always a plus. This felt very “Agatha Christie” and I enjoyed trying to figure out who exactly was murdering the few people on this isolated island. If the British government did actually isolate their own agents during WWII so they couldn‘t spill secrets I would really love to read more about that. I felt so bad for Maggie! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Super good!!! Maggie “knows too much” so a new leader puts her on ice on an island with other operatives. Only problem, people on this island are dying at an alarming rate. Maggie must find a killer and not become a victim herself. 💜💜💜

I don't think I've enjoyed a series than one but maybe I should say it's my favorite read at the moment because I have tons of authors that I absolutely adore....Maggie has been sent Scara off the Western coast of Scotland as a secret agent who has been compromised. Honestly I don't know how she lands in some of her messes but she is the toughest never thrown in the towel character. Can't wait until the book releases.

Unexpected trip back to Storrs today with my son. Stopped to refuel at their Starbucks & listened to tagged book while he ate & read.

Susannah A bit off topic, but I love your purse! 6y

I gotta admit, I didn't love this book as much as the ones previous. The concept yes, but it just felt like it was too far from Maggie's world. Also, it took me forever to recall why in the hell she would be imprisoned in the first place which kept pulling my head out of the story. That being said it's evocative of a traditional Agatha Christie manor born mystery. Poor Maggie's really been through the ringer by the end of this one.

A departure from the typical Maggie Hope mystery that illustrates a little known incident during WWII. This is a well done Agatha Christie locked room type plot but set on an island that holds Maggie and other government agents as prisoners. Although the book dragged in the beginning, the characters were interesting enough to make up for it. Plus, the reason why these murders were happening gave the whole concept a nice twist.

Maggie finds herself on an island with fellow spies who‘ve been isolated from the war effort for various reasons. They all know how to kill, but someone‘s killing them. Discovering a German spy in their midst ramps up the tension. Meanwhile, back home, she‘s needed to testify in a trial, but no one knows where she is. Homage to Agatha Christie‘s And Then There Were None/Ten Little Indians.

Enjoyed the storyline, perhaps because it reminded my of Agatha Christie, but it was pretty easy to figure out who was the......antagonist.

My first Maggie Hope mystery - but it won‘t be my last. Judging by other reviews this one is a bit different than the rest of the series - clearly an homage to Christie‘s AND THEN THERE WERE NONE, but I really enjoyed it! #jesshowreads2018

I have had a crazy week, and am falling behind on reviews. Noel took the girls out this morning, so I grabbed a breakfast burrito, and am sitting down with this one from Random House.
Goal: stay in chair till burrito is gone or 100 pages have been read. Whichever comes first. 😉

We‘d planned to go swimming this morning, but woke to thunder and pouring rain. Huzzah!!! It had been 107 days since Southern Arizona got any precipitation and the wildfire warnings were super high. I‘m going to sit and read, and hope the mountains are also getting soaked. 😍☔️📚😍☔️

(ARC was sent to me by Shelf Awareness)

JamieArc I lived in Tucson for a while and do miss the smell of creosote after a rain 😊 6y

This book is another wonderful installment in the Maggie Hope series!
Maggie has been imprisoned on a remote Scottish island due to her knowledge of important war time happenings. She‘s not the only one either. Other prisoners are there for similar reasons. Either knowing to much or being a threat to the war effort...

JazzFeathers I've been eyeing it on NetGalley but haven't requested. Really curious to you what you think. I may change my mind 😏 7y
SassyBookworm @JazzFeathers I‘m about 45% in according my kindle and I love it. But I‘m a HUGE Maggie Hope fan. I read reviews that it‘s got an Agatha Christie ‘And Then There Were None‘ undertone & I can definitely see that coming thru! I does refer to actions in the previous book but honestly it wouldn‘t be hard to follow if you haven‘t. I would suggest it!! ☺️ 7y

An Agatha Christie type mystery set on a Scottish island during WWII. The heroine in this series is Maggie Hope an SOE agent who is being held captive along with other captured agents. Maggie has to figure out who is picking off agents one-by-one before she becomes the next victim. This is the 8th book in the series. Rated: 3/5

SassyBookworm @CharissaWeaksAuthor You‘re welcome! @RainyDayReading I am so excited about that series! I‘ve had it on hold on my library app since Aug 30 & I still have 10 weeks to wait! 🙄 7y
RainyDayReading @Chrysta23 Omg 10 weeks?! That‘s crazy! I guess I‘m lucky, at my library I can pick the series up whenever I want because there‘s not a big demand for it. It‘s usually on the shelves whenever I go in. But it does look super good! And the cover 😍 7y
MinDea @Chrysta not sure where you are located but Melanie Benjamin just posted her book tour. I posted it on my page! She is m6 favorite historical fiction author! 7y
