Next up on #kindle
Very mixed reviews on this one but people who's opinions I trust IRL and here have rated it (waves at @trishb 👋)
Disappointing. For a vampire book, this is a story that goes no where, has no action, and definitely no excitement. Honestly, I should have DNF'd it at page 88 (end of Chapter 4) and saved myself some time, but I kept waiting for the uprising.
But it‘s off my TBR! So onto the next book 🎃👻
Book 5/12 of my Spooktober TBR
A good read if you like vampire stories! These aren‘t the openly evil we‘ll kill you all vampires. Instead they‘re doing it off page, whilst infiltrating the top tiers of society to try and take control. Really interesting approach.

I think it was Scott that mentioned this one and made me buy it! 😉
Took a day‘s leave today because it‘s been one of those weeks (like 4 days =4 weeks) and I needed a break. Hoping to just read.

Top one is for my last one in #booked2021 #frenemies
The bottom 2 I brought with a birthday gift from @eanderson thank you Elisabeth 😘 they‘re very different but both have appealed to me recently!
Tagged book is my current read going into week 2 of #Scarathlon2021 and now it‘s time to post my totals:
🎃 Week One: 998
🎃Week Two: 267
💀Overall Total: 1265
Trying to power through some audiobooks over the next few weeks which will help. Go #TeamHendrix
I liked this book, especially the audio performance, but the ending was a let down. So many things that seemed promised never occur. But, I was still drawn to each character's stories. I wish the narrative had also included a gloaming's pov... but obviously the book title would then have been a lie, lol.
I liked the unique focus on the legal quandaries that integrating vampire and human lives would incur. Some of this book was a little dry and lengthy, but overall, I thought it was an original spin on vampires and I was into it. The author made me care about the characters while keeping me at a distance from them, which I found skillful.
So, I‘m brand new to the app and decided it‘s about time I post something! Sorry It‘s not the most aesthetically pleasing picture, lmao. I just got home from my first day at work and had some time to relax and read while it storms outside. I‘m not very far into this read, but I appreciate the quick and casual pace as it doesn‘t feel like there‘s been a sacrifice to the plot to achieve it. Anyway, happy reading!
What better book for this dark and stormy night?? 👁
I gave this a more than fair shot (150 pages) to capture my attention but it just plain didn‘t. A World War Z style history of a vampire outbreak should check a lot of boxes for me but this lacked suspense and felt disappointing.
This is an alternate history telling of the vampire uprising reminiscent of World War Z. It mainly follows a CDC doctor who discovered the vampire virus, an FBI agent over vampire crimes, and a priest part of the Catholic resistance to the vamps. There's also fun parts following the political climate and vampire civil rights. Super interesting and really fun!
Does it still count as #litsypartyofone when it's actually me plus the three kitties? (Beru is sitting out of frame.)

Started this last night. A random pick from the library's New Book Shelf. A fictional history of a vampire virus spreading across North America, told in a series of first person accounts, interviews, articles, and other documents. A la World War Z though not quite as suspenseful for some reason. 🤔
#24b4Monday clock is at 4 hours and 30 minutes.... And counting. @TheReadingMermaid @Andrew65
I was planning a trip to Seattle this weekend but that fell through. So I started planning my #24b4Monday stack.👆 Then got an invite to a friend's beach house. Not sure whether I'll go but I can at least get some reading in regardless. These books are due back in 10 days & I won't be able to renew but I'd like to flip through them, read as much as I can. Plus I have some unfinished business on my Kindle that needs finishing.
Leia has been working on her disapproving glare to let me know that reading should not interfere with pets. #catsoflitsy
I tried...but after the first few chapters I was absolutely bored to tears.
This book is in the same vain as World War Z and Sleeping Giants. Loved the style of this book and the take the author had on vampires. Recommend is you like the above reads.
Catching up on some books where the Author is attending the Texas State Book Festival. I have bunch that I am going to try to get in since they were already on my shelf. Author discussions are so much better when you read the book.
I‘m really enjoying this one. Basically follows the idea of what would happen if a Vampire virus became a real thing. Rather than everyone turning into blood sucking bats, instead it focuses on what this may look like as people try to live life in this new way and how those who don‘t deal with it. It is told through interviews and personal stories. Very inventive!
Political and social satire that doesn't bring much new to the vampire genre. This is very World War Z-esque, just not as good. There were good things and bad. The author is a lawyer, so there was a bit of legal stuff I zoned out on, and the plot was lacking. I don't think it reached its potential, but is a good warning of the dangers of giving in politically to the 1%. A solid 3 stars. Good on audio as well.
Currently reading and sitting on my back porch...
Loved this book so damn much. So well written and researched. If you like alternate history, READ THIS BOOK.
I‘ve been interested ever since I saw the cover...
July is off to a bad start. I‘ve given this book 145 pages and I‘m done. It‘s reminiscent of World War Z, but with vampires instead of zombies. The writing is tolerable, but I find myself bored and not really interested in how things played out. I checked other reviews to see if I should force myself to keep going and saw that apparently this is going to be a series. I definitely don‘t have the patience for a sequel. #unpopularopinion
A virus emerges which turns people into vampires, or “gloamings.” With a structure somewhat like World War Z, this book traces the spread of the gloaming virus into the population and the struggles to accept vampire-like people. This is not scary and not meant to be—it‘s more a societal commentary. I really enjoyed it.
Beach book, sandy toes.
Day two at the beach = book two at the beach.
Here we go! 2 hour road trip to a wedding. 🧛♀️
Biting into this one tonight. 😂🤣😂
Anyone read this? I saw it at BAM tonight but didn't want to fork over 27 bucks for the hardback. Sounded interesting so maybe will pick it up from the library. Maybe a bit like World War Z?
Here‘s the hallway I mentioned in my last post. So much fun browsing there! Mr. Z even enjoyed hanging out there for an hour.
We went to Charleston last Fri. on a spur-of-the-moment trip. Only enough time for a few good meals and browsing at Blue Bicycle Books. What a cool store! This is the main room in front, but there is a lined hallway, a few rooms off the hallway, and a back storeroom full of cool books. Great collection of used and rare in great condition and fun organization interspersed with photos. I only got one book (tagged) but was super excited to find it.
Yes, yes, and yes! This is the book as a vampire fan I‘ve been waiting for! Told in an #epistolary format similar to World War Z, this book describes the rise to power of the Gloaming (aka vampires). It‘s been a while since a vampire book hooked me (not counting rereads of classics like ‘Salem‘s Lot) and this one succeeded.
I loved this book so damn much! It was so well researched and thought out. I love how the plot lines came together. It was so easy to lose myself in this book and feel like it could so easily be part of history. Fucking fantastic!
I will say that this book needs to state CLEARLY on the cover that it is the first of a series, because it does leave you completely hanging. Which is cool, because it's a great start to a new imagined world and I look forward to seeing where the next installment goes. I do hope it is not a year between books though.
This is kind of a cross between World War Z and True Blood but the humor is decidedly gallows (think tv's Gotham).
LOVING this so far! Most I've read in one sitting in ages! Yum! 💉
