Bailedbailed

I just can‘t go on anymore. I guess if you like books with more dialogue about how dark and gritty the main character and world is than actual plot then this one‘s for you. I liked Sal the Cacophony as a concept but I kept zoning out during her monologues about how terrible her life is. I hate bailing on a book but this one was just too infuriating to get through.

This was exactly what I want my sci-fi to be. It forced me to stretch the boundaries of my imagination of human potential while commenting on the current nature of humanity. The audiobook is also phenomenally read. Adjoa Andoh uses several accents to convey regional dialects and personalities. All around, a fun time! I listened on Libro.fm

Let me start by saying this audio book on Libro.fm is one of the BEST I have ever listened to. The reader is phenomenal. That being said, wow what a book. It has been nestled in my chest cavity for a couple days now, simultaneously weighing it down and lifting it up, like a breathing, living creature. I do not think it will leave me for quite some time. It‘s now one of my favorite books. I‘m going to go stare out a window for a couple more hours.

This book was so interesting! I didn‘t finish it because after he moved from animals to the microscopic world I lost interest. But what I did listen to changed my perception of how evolution shapes the world. Physics guides everything! And alien life probably wouldn‘t look that different from life on earth because of it. I could not put this down! The amount of incredible detective work, corruption, and intrigue that are detailed in this book made it feel more like a crime novel than a historical account. I can‘t wait for the movie to come out. Listened on Libro.fm

This book is just amazing. The amount of blood, sweat and tears that went into creating this astounding account of the horrific depths of depravity is truly amazing. I definitely have book hangover. Listened on Libro.fm

Back to Sanderson! I honestly didn‘t love Lift‘s character in the main series. I often found her annoying. But this novella changed my view of her and now she‘s one of my favorite characters. Plus it contains the only instance of the use of a Shardfork-which made me laugh pretty hard. This felt like an interlude from one of the main novels where we get to see other cultures, but with some more world-changing events occurring. #stormlightarchive

Finally finished this gorgeous book! It‘s haunting in so many ways and has rekindled my love of 19th c lit. Just the right combo of heartbreaking and beautiful. Definitely got some yells out of me there towards the end.

Linsy Ooh, this is on my shelf! Clearly I need to bump it up my TBR. 6y

Thank you for the follows and the warm welcome new friends! That‘s me on the right (jk that‘s Dan Santat, I‘m on the left). I read a lot of fantasy, middle grade novels, and picture books so recommendations for those are appreciated!

Completed my collection! The Delilah Dirk series is such a fun romp through beautifully illustrated lands. I like Delilah‘s costume re-design in this latest one a lot.

Just look at this incredible art! Definitely my favorite of the series so far. I love all the complexities of good vs evil and law vs mercy. Gave me several existential crises which I always count as a good thing ✨

This fantasy novel has a Jewish heroine! Has that ever been done before? Besides Ivanhoe‘s not so subtle racist stereotype? It was so refreshing to read about not one, not two but THREE badass ladies who kick butt in their own unique ways. They‘re capable yet not reduced to the ever exploited “strong woman” cliche. I‘m often dubious of fairy tale retellings but this trod that delicate line of believable characters and ethereal world building.

Leniverse Yes! There‘s a Jewish heroine in 6y

There are a lot of fantasy stories about epic heroes doing amazing things. And this series has plenty of that. But what sets it apart is how it shows the emotional repercussions of being on the front lines of world shattering events. The protagonists aren‘t perfect, they all struggle with mental health and defining their morality. Their inner demons are just as real and dangerous as the external ones. But there‘re lots of cool swords too ⚔️
