😳 Can one live with revenge or justice, whichever it is?

Entertaining enough of a listen to keep me going. Off to look for the next one in the series, though apparently Eskens doesn‘t refer to it as such.

Detective Max Rupert has become the bad guy or has he, when Max gets some new information on his wife death it changes everything. Max is on a mission and his end game is going to upset the underworld.

I struggled with this book only with my own moral code, but what happens when the people who‘s job is to protect the vulnerable people in are society lets them down and innocent people get cut down because they want to protect vulnerable.

I finished The Deep Dark Descending by Allen Eskens! This is not a book I would have picked up, but my youngest asked me to read it... A burnt out, middle age cop is trying to solve the murder of his wife and a prostitute. The whole book takes place in a three day period. It moved very quickly.

Somehow, neither of my children are readers! :( Both my ex-husband and I are avid readers so I don't understand why my children aren't. So, when my youngest asked me to read this book because she had read it and liked it, I was like, Of Course I Will Read This Book! :) I'm not that far in, but it's pretty good so far. It's not something I would have picked up and read, but when my daughter asks me to, of course I'm going to read it.

Octoberwoman My girls were both avid readers up until high school. Now they don‘t read much at all. But if they tell me about a book I should read, even if it doesn‘t sound the least bit appealing to me, I read it. And if they tell me about a book they heard about and want to read, I‘ll buy it for them, even if it cost more than I would spend on myself! 4y
jnichole @Octoberwoman I hear you! Both of my girls like Manga, so I guess it's a form of reading. If they ask, I will buy them a new Manga; even if I don't understand what the appeal is. 4y

Like all the MN references throughout Esken‘s novels. Quick detective books that seem predictable but can still keep you guessing. #audiobookrun

Eskens is an excellent writer but this was not my favorite of the series. Good overall but the ending left me a smidge underwhelmed.

I thought the first two books in the series were fantastic, this one less so.

I didn‘t enjoy this as much as The Life We Bury. I decided to give it a try some other time.

I really enjoyed this book because I was committed to the storyline before it even started. Max Rupert is searching for the man who ordered his wife‘s death and it‘s a messy, but rewarding journey. The closure is worth getting through the slower parts for.

Murder in cold blood. This is the epitome of Allen Eskens latest novel. In the ice cold Minnesota north country, Max Ruppert not only wrestles with a killer...he also wrestles with himself. This book will leave you thrilled to have read it.

Eskens can tell a story, but somehow, this one wasn't satisfying. Can't quite put my finger on it.

As an individual novel, this was a gripping tale of revenge and justice . . . but I am not sure if I feel like the actions of the main character fit with his behavior in the context of the series. Even so, I enjoyed the read and I could feel the wind howling as I read the sections that took place out in the frozen wilderness.

I listened to the audiobook and the man's voice took some getting used to. The story also started in a strange part. I enjoyed this story but I thought certain parts could've been taken farther and the ending could've been so much better. I was expecting a big surprise or twist and it wasn't there. So, the book is worth the read but it wasn't my fave.
