#TIL John was the youngest child of George V and Princess Mary. The uncle of the current monarch Elizabeth II. He was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of 4 only lived to be 13 years old.

This book filled in so many of the previous Questions I had about the Windsors.

This is a lovely, in depth biography. I didn't know very much about Queen Mary going in, but I got a full overview of her life with this book. It was very informative, impartial, and well researched. I very much enjoyed this book. My respect and admiration for Queen Mary has increased tenfold.

This is the best written of the Royal biographies I've read. Understanding Queen Mary is vital to understanding Queen Elizabeth's rather staid, dutiful persona. Partially inherited from, partially modeled after her grandma. But Queen Mary's mother, Princess Mary Adelaide of Cambridge (1833-97), was the real character. Perpetually in debt, yet generous with charities, and apparently a lot of fun. I wish somebody would write HER biography. #royals
