Masterpiece | Francine Rivers
New York Times bestselling author Francine Rivers returns to her romance roots with this unexpected and redemptive love story, a probing tale that reminds us that mercy can shape even the most broken among us into an imperfect yet stunning masterpiece.A successful LA artist, Roman Velasco appears to have everything he could possibly want--money, women, fame. Only Grace Moore, his reluctant, newly hired personal assistant, knows how little he truly has. The demons of Roman's past seem to echo through the halls of his empty mansion and out across his breathtaking Topanga Canyon view. But Grace doesn't know how her boss secretly wrestles with those demons: by tagging buildings as the Bird, a notorious but unidentified graffiti artist--an alter ego that could destroy his career and land him in prison.Like Roman, Grace is wrestling with ghosts and secrets of her own. After a disastrous marriage threw her life completely off course, she vowed never to let love steal her dreams again. But as she gets to know the enigmatic man behind the reputation, it's as if the jagged pieces of both of their pasts slowly begin to fit together . . . until something so unexpected happens that it changes the course of their relationship--and both their lives--forever.

I am unfamiliar with this author, so I was unprepared for the emphasis on religion. I practice spirituality. I was drawn to this book for the subject of art. The artist, Roman Velasco, reminded me of Bansky in the beginning. Roman started out anonymously painting graffiti and worked to avoid capture by the police. Anyway, this quickly becomes a love story between Roman and his personal assistant and life changing events. #MountTBR

I have loved Francine Rivers‘ books for years. She is without a doubt, one of the finest Christian Fiction authors out there. However, I was highly disappointed in this book. The plot was incredibly predictable. You kept hoping you weren‘t correct about what was coming next, but you were. It‘s a nice enough story, but does not reach the heights of “And the Shofar Blew.”

Highly recommend. This is a wonderful story about two people that grew up in damaged family circumstances. The story relates how the two grew and changed. Reading about their growth as Christians was inspiring.

In the back of the book, “A Note From The Author” explains exactly what I was hoping this book would be. but it missed the mark 😭 I also wish my girl, Francine, would go back to historical fiction. I think part of it is that I just have such high expectations for Francine Rivers that I get disappointed if the book isn‘t life changing lol 🤷🏻‍♀️

I was definitely entertained, but in a cheap way. No doubt that Francine Rivers is a talented writer, but I thought the characters relied too heavily on stereotypes and were pretty superficial. And the plot was convenient. It‘s just a fantasy, which is fine, but I felt like her talent could have made it more.

I normally really love Francine Rivers, but I was sorely disappointed in this book. I disliked the main character, Grace, immensely, and found the story to be way too long and drawn out. I thought Grace was incredibly unlikable and couldn't figure out what Roman saw in her. Most of their actions ring false to me and unrealistic. Such a bummer I didn't like this, I usually love everything she writes. 😔 2.5⭐️

Daisey That's disappointing. I'll probably still give it a chance sometime, but it will keep my expectations in check. 7y
JenlovesJT47 @Daisey what other books of hers have you read? Her Marta's Legacy series is my favorite, I read it once a year or so. 💚 7y
hes7 Aw, bummer. I was excited when I found out about this book months ago, but I keep seeing disappointed reviews. 7y

JenlovesJT47 @hes7 yeah I was really bummed about this one. 😔 Took me two weeks to finish it. 7y
Daisey My favorite is The Scarlet Thread, but I also really enjoyed Redeeming Love and the Lineage of Grace novellas. I even managed to track down one of her pre Christian writing romances, which was interesting to compare. 7y
JenlovesJT47 @Daisey oh really?? What's the name of that one? Sounds interesting. The Scarlet Thread and Redeeming Love are great, I haven't read The Lineage of Grace yet. So many books so little time! 😱 7y
Daisey It was called Not So Wild A Dream, but it seems to have now disappeared from my shelves. 7y

I enjoyed it but found it a bit long at the end. Francine has a wonderful voice in her writing that displays a personal relationship with God very well in the characters

Not my normal type of book but Redeeming Love is one of my all time favorites so I had to try out her new one. This Christian-based novel did not disappoint. I may have cried my eyes out a time or two. (Also, I can‘t figure out how to tag a book in the comments so if anyone could tell me that would be great! Haha)

Normally I love Francine Rivers' books. She only has a new one come out once every 2 years or so. I was super excited to get this chunkster from the library. Sad to say I'm very disappointed so far and I've been slogging through it for 2 days already and am only halfway done. 😪I still plan to finish it, just might be taking a break for a few days to read A Man Called Ove before my hold expires. Sigh.

Sace Oh... I thought the cat was the masterpiece 😁 I went through a Francine Rivers phase years ago. I loved everything I read. Sorry to hear this one has been disappointing. 7y
JenlovesJT47 @RestlessFickleBookHoarder we'll just go with that, Scarlett is the masterpiece lol. 😻Yeah, normally I really love her books. Her Marta's Legacy series is in my top 5 books of all time. With this one, I just really despise the main character and really want to punch her in the face. And I can already see the ending coming from a mile away. Meaning why is it so long, you could take out 150 pages and not miss anything! 7y
