Poor people get stop and frisked and thrown in jail for minor violations while the banksters responsible for tanking the World economy go free. There are two justice systems in this country, and depending on your net worth and the color of your skin, you will get a wildly different treatment. Until the robber barrons are incarcerated for their financial crimes, the wealth gap will continue to grow, and the US will add more bodies behind bars.

Break down of inequality

A vital, infuriating book that ties the immense legal underreaction to the 2008 Financial Crisis to the vast legal overreach in the prosecution of the American poor by a stats-obsessed law enforcement machine to pain a picture of the new American injustice. Taibbi's argument is surprisingly persuasive and bipartisan, demonstrating how Obama, Bush, and Clinton all played a part in creating this system. Rambles a bit, but ultimately a valuable read.

This is a photo of their old location (they moved a couple blocks away about a month ago), but the Powerhouse Arena in Brooklyn is one of my favorite indie bookstores in NYC.
