Big departure from the Twilight series. I loved the characters and their developing relationships. The storyline and voice actor made this a great road trip #audio book. #christyread #action
A goodwill find. I like her writing. Not even going to apologize for it. (Though I admit rethinking part of the twilight story line makes me see some of the cringy bits. I still really enjoyed them at the time however.)
Absolutely adored. Such great characters and stories. Definitely in my top reads of 2020
I had high hopes for this book. But the romance part of the story was ridiculous. Felt like a YA romance in a thriller about biological weapons, torture and spies. Nope.
This was a myTBR recommendation for me a couple months ago. I tried, y‘all. I really tried, but at the 40% mark with 10 1/2 hours left, I just can‘t. The characters are flat, unbelievable, and annoying, and the writing is juvenile. It feels like Meyer was writing with an anatomy textbook and thesaurus in front of her, trying to sound smart and failing. I also wished the MC had died with her lab partner before the book even started. #NotForMe
The very beginning, a few pages in the middle, and the end matched the cover art here - a half-pint trauma-doctor-for-hire hiding from her own government. But a good 2/3 of this book felt like a whole other genre of a girl experiencing the first boy-crush of her life. If 1/2 of the 2/3 had been edited from this book book it may have earned a pick from me.
The paragraph above hits different in today‘s world, doesn‘t it? Review wise, the references to psychosis at the start were really inaccurate, feeding into a lot of negative stereotypes about mental illness. The author moved on from that and the story sucked me in but I found a lot of the writing quirks that don‘t bother me in a YA book didn‘t translate well to an ‘adult‘ book. On the plus side one down on my self imposed challenge!
The Chemist didn't meet its potential. There were parts of the book that were tense and thrilling. Sadly, Meyer doesn't seem to know when to quit talking about something (and, further, not to revisit it excessively later on). A severe edit would have done wonders.
Today‘s errand had become routine for the woman who was currently calling herself Chris Taylor.

I was entertained. I liked the narrator. I was able to get lost in the story and shut out the world around me. That is a pick for me.
Oh, where have you been all these years?! Just starting this but the first few pages have me tingling with interest. An intelligent woman who worked secretly with the government is on the run for her life. Loaded with details of how she covers her tracks and protects herself. Don‘t let me down!
⭐⭐ Okay story. ...She dedicated it to Jason Bourne...that was kinda my clue that this wasn't going to be a book I'd be crazy about. 😂
“You‘ll make mistakes because it‘s impossible to know what is or isn‘t a mistake until it‘s made.” - Stephenie Meyer, The Chemist #thechemist #quote
Between a pick and a so so. Read it for a book club and enjoyed it enough to finish in a weekend. Had a very hard time thinking of questions to ask at book club. I don‘t think there‘s much to discuss here. Lots of action, lots of guns, big summer block buster of a book. My sticky notes are things I want to discuss, but all very surface level. 🙄
Book and bomb pop soda from yesterday. I am loving this book so far. My first Meyer ever. 🧪🧬💉🦠🔬
Why the hate for Stephenie Meyer? I don't mind her. I just want to be completely engrossed in a story and be made to feel something. If you catch my attention and make me forget the world around me for a few minutes, I call that a win. I was super busy and it took me a month to find enough time to read this in full. It was a little slow at first, but somewhere near the middle of the book it picked up the pace. A coworker loaned it to me randomly.
Trying to keep up with reviews. All I have to say is that I respect this author a lot. As a result, I wanted to read something by her which was not the saga she is so well known for, but I was afraid to be disappointed. Thankfully, it's furthest from the truth. The main character is funny, relatable, and jump-of-the-page real. The supporting characters are just as strong. And despite all of the odds... that ending. 😭😍❤️📚🎉 #nospoilers #scifi
So far I am enjoying this one. I didn‘t really enjoy the twilight books by Meyer so I took a chance and gave this one a shot. It‘s kept my interest and has me turning page after page surprisingly, main character Alex thought process seems so robotic when she thinks of Daniel it‘s entertaining. The action in this adds to its appeal for me as well.
It feels so weird to be back from vacation already. Thankfully my coworkers helped me manage my caseload, so it is not as overwhelming as I feared. And there is always reading to help me cope. This is my current book, and so far it's definitely engaging and worthwhile. #currentlyreading
Sorry for the quality, the lighting was awful so I had to use the flash. I picked this and a couple other books up today! So excited to read this!!!
I went to Barnes and Noble today and used my birthday gift card and got these! Has anyone read THE CHEMIST? I thought it was by the author of the Lunar Chronicles (I love that series) but it's by the author of Twilight. 🤦🏻♀️ DERP!
My eyes may be bigger than my speed of reading. Pro of working at the library access to a lot of books I don‘t own. Plus don‘t have to make room in my already too large collection of Books. And saves me money. Con of it is that I check out all the books I want to read but I still have so many waiting to be read at home. There are not enough Hours in the day!! the top two are sequels to books I‘ve read and I‘m excited to see what happens next!
Great book! Easy to read, easy storyline to follow throughout. Kept me intrigued and interested. Loved the development of the characters. Had some funny moments, mixed in with the serious.
Stephanie Meyer has improved a lot over the years, this book was engaging and I loved the whole story. I recommend the audiobook as well, I‘ve really enjoyed this story and was on the edge of my seat more than once! Some people have issues with the slower pace to get the story going, but once it‘s on the move it goes fast. Like I said the audiobook helps a lot to get through the slower parts.
Awesome book!!! While lengthy, I could not tell because the story was action packed and the characters were pretty well developed. Would love a sequel. Just read that it will be adapted as a tv series. Can‘t wait!!!
I have never read the Twilight series and never will. Do not read vampire books. However I lived Stephenie's The Host. Finally got to this one. Lived it too. Love how her books make me think. This one about whether or not torture is ever acceptable.
The Chemist was no comparison to Twilight— not bad, not good, but just meh. I do think it should‘ve been shorter simply bc it easily ‘could-have-been‘ & without sacrificing anything or any meat. Also, it was a book club read (and I‘m the one that submitted this book for reading) and I was very disappointed that there were no pre-written book club discussion questions by Meyers or on her website :/

Super excited to open this. I was bumped I had to wait till almost 9 PM today, but what a great set of books.
Picked this one up at CVS today for $5.99 and I‘m hooked so far. I‘m also loving my new water bottle. I‘m obsessed with Moroccan/Eastern-type tiles (I spend way too long looking at that part of any museum) and so this bottle is just ❤️❤️. Plus it‘s super functional.

Have you read this book yet? I am doing the audio book so no looking ahead. It is a little difficult & rough at the moment. Was looking for a little relief & happy thought!!
I really enjoyed this read. An ex-agent is on the run from her former employer. They called her The Chemist and she uses her unique set of skills trying to outsmart, out run what they have in store for her. It was super fast paced with a little romance thrown in. This book has a ton of highly skilled K-9s throughout the book. I‘m always been intrigued by well trained dogs and what they can really do. It really added to the uniqueness of this book.
Wow. This was so much better than I expected. It‘s not a book I ever intended to read, but when your grandmother shoves a book at you because she loved it so much it‘s really hard to turn it down. It was action-packed and engaging and well paced, and the main character was awesome. Full review here: http://novelnotions.net/2018/07/18/the-chemist/
Interesting start, but lost me when the focus just shifted to romance without giving me much investment in the characters. DNF.
So I have decided that I like audio books! I have a 30 minute commute to work each day, so I started listening to the book instead of the radio. I knew my limits at home, and would read the book instead of listening to the audio. Worked out great for me. I'm sure some of you all have been doing this for a while- I'm just a little late to the show lol! But I did enjoy this book much better than the Host. It was a surprisingly good read!
Giving audio books another try. I usually end up falling asleep when listening to one. Hopefully I will be more successful this time lol!
It's been a long time since I picked up the book, and this one got me hooked. The plot is interesting, characters powerful and evolving in my eyes
I stopped by CVS earlier this week to pick up a birthday card for a coworker. Stuck in the back corner where no one could see was a rack full of hardcovers on sale for $5.99. I chose this one. 🎉🎊🛍
