Having now read this book in both English and the originally written language Afrikaans, I even more maintain that this is my top favourites read of 2021!
Phenomenal book!!

Phenomenal book!!
Although I originally read this book in English, Fever, and absolutely loved it, I have to read it in the language it was first written in, Afrikaans, which is also my mother tongue.
It is such a phenomenal story, I will probably read it a few more times in my lifetime. Absolutely 5 star book!
One of the best books I've read in a long time. Absolutely gripping and a true page turner.
Written in 2016, it's a dystopian novel of the world being attacked by a virus that wipes out 95% of the world's population. The book, based in South Africa, focuses on the 5% of the population that is left and how they rebuild society.
Another book by a South African author.
My 3rd book this week. Vacation time is fantastic!
This was eerie... fever from a (no joke here) coronavirus wipes out 95% or so of the world population. The survivors have to rebuild from the ground up. It is Walking Dead without the zombies essentially. Although I found this too verbose in spots, it is an interesting take on the post apocalyptic genre. The ending was satisfying but somewhat abrupt considering the majority of the book is a long, slow burn. Overall I enjoyed it.
Cooling down... nothing like a post apocalyptic book to keep the miles from feeling like forever! 2 miles today... not bad! Happy Tuesday!!! 🤗
First run of 2018! 3 miles with .50 warm up and cool down. 🤗 happy Saturday, everyone!
Morning cuddles with Theo. 😍 #pugsoflitsy
Finally starting this book after winning it from a Goodreads giveaway! 6 chapters in and it‘s pretty good!
Deon Meyer's post-apocalyptic novel (translated from Afrikaans by K. L. Seegers) is an epic coming-of-age tale set in South Africa about Nico who's torn between two fathers (Willem and Domingo) and although the murder device doesn't really come off due to an anti-climatic pay-off and the framing device means that Nico is never in jeopardy, the story is well-researched, believable and had me completely engrossed from start to finish.
New #bookreview at www.theirregularreaderblog.wordpress.com! Fever by Deon Meyer is a post-apocalyptic tale set in South Africa!
Bam!! Knocked out a big burger and 250 pages. And got totally sucked into this book! I knew I just needed a good chunk of time. Loving it! #reviewdeadline
Review due in 3 days, and I have a lot to read!! So husband is on kid duty and I took myself out for a solo dinner date. Not leaving till I've read 100 pages. 😜 #reviewdeadline
Trying to decide if I should keep at Fever (it's good, but depressingly post-apocalyptic and I don't know if I care), or abandon to review something else. What would you pick?? (Tagged options in comments.)
Busy day at work, then grocery shopping, now a few min to read in the car before school pick-up!
I didn't plan ahead enough to officially sign up for #24in48, but I'm going to unofficially participate as much as possible! Going to try to read instead of wasting so much time on my phone this weekend!
Surprise #bookmail! I was absolutely sure I hadn't ordered anything, and a box from Goldsboro Books was an exciting mystery! Did I win something? Turned out to be an unexpected gift from @Simona Thank you! I'm not sure I have read any South African literature before, so now you are expanding my reading horizon. 😊
I requested this one bc I'm a big fan of Meyer's Benny Griessel series - love the way he evokes contemporary South Africa. But I didn't realize this is a standalone! Set in a post-plague future South Africa, where survivors work together to create a utopian settlement. Super intrigued! Pubs 9/5. #julybookmailforme
@Eamann look what just cropped up in the novel I'm reading - how's that for a coincidence!
#TBRtemptation post 4! #BEA17 edition! Young Nico and his father, Willem, are one of the few left in South Africa after a virus wipes out the country. Willem founds Amanzi, a community to build from the ruins, and a diverse group of survivors. Challenges both inside and outside increase. This is Nico's recounting, and his hunt for the murderer of the person he loved most. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎
