Falling into Place

One cold fall day, high school junior Liz Emerson steers her car into a tree. This haunting and heartbreaking story is told by a surprising and unexpected narrator and unfolds in nonlinear flashbacks even as Liz's friends, foes, and family gather at the hospital and Liz clings to life. This riveting debut will appeal to fans of Before I Fall, by Lauren Oliver, and 13 Reasons Why, by Jay Asher."On the day Liz Emerson tries to die, they had reviewed Newton's laws of motion in physics class. Then, after school, she put them into practice by running her Mercedes off the road." Why did Liz Emerson decide that the world would be better off without her? Why did she give up? The nonlinear novel pieces together the short and devastating life of Meridian High's most popular junior girl. Mass, acceleration, momentum, force—Liz didn't understand it in physics, and even as her Mercedes hurtles toward the tree, she doesn't understand it now. How do we impact one another? How do our actions reverberate? What does it mean to be a friend? To love someone? To be a daughter? Or a mother? Is life truly more than cause and effect? Amy Zhang's haunting and universal story will appeal to fans of Lauren Oliver, Gayle Forman, and Jay Asher.

Sometimes things don‘t work out how you want. Sometimes you don‘t get the second chance. One of the most solid real stories that leave you questioning

I didn‘t dislike this book but didn‘t love it much either. YA novel about a girl whose life has gone completely off the rails who doesn‘t know how to ask for help getting it back, tackling some very difficult issues. I appreciated the friendships at the heart of it and the issues it confronted but I wasn‘t that into it and didn‘t connect with the characters that much. It didn‘t feel like the type of YA that works for people of all ages really.

"Falling into Place" is a sad story which tackles some difficult subjects, from bullying to drug use to suicide. It's certainly not a happy read and is quite emotional at times. Unfortunately this book wasn't for me, I couldn't connect with the main character and this seriously affected how I felt about the whole thing - 1 star.

My full review is up on my blog now ?

I read a lot of YA...mostly so I can recommend books to my students. This story about a girl whose life has gone completely off the rails (mostly because of her own poor choices) wasn't great.

A very realistic portrayal of a teenager with depression.

Started this short contemporary last night and I'm almost done. It's an interesting story and I am curious to see how it ends.

Good, but very emotional. Despite all her faults, I especially liked Liz's character. The only thing I had a problem with was how there was no good person in the school except Liam- everyone, even the background characters mentioned once, had huge issues. Still, it's worth a read.

Quote from the book Falling into Place. It's very high on my #TBR list. If there's an audible for it, I'll probably read it next.

Round 3 of #diversereads for #booktober!
For this last picture, I just wanted to show off some of my books in green-blue hues because they're my favorite colors. I rarely go a day without wearing something that's blue. I can't help it!
What color do you wear most? And do you have a preferred color for your books?

#diversebooks #books #reading #YA

TheCanuckReader Also a blue fan here and I'm attracted to any covers with bright primary colours 8y
read_diverse_books @TheCanuckReader Yeah, I love when books have bold yellow, red, or blue covers. 8y

KaitlinS16 I seem to wear a lot of black! There are lots of gorgeous blue books. I I also love yellow ones. It doesn't seem to be as popular color for designs, but yellow books tend to stand out to me. 😄 8y
erzascarletbookgasm So pretty! 8y
read_diverse_books @KaitlinS16 I have a few yellow books and I love them! But you're right that they're not very common. I don't have much clothing in black anymore. I did when I was a teen, though. Lol 8y
read_diverse_books @erzascarletbookgasm @britt_brooke Thank you! 💗💖 8y
CarolynOliver Purple! And it seems like it's not a common color for books. Lovely photo. 8y
read_diverse_books @CarolynOliver Purple's not common at all in books! I'll have to check my collection. 8y
theshrinkette Blues and blacks for me. I go back and forth between gorgeous covers like the YA novels and minimalist covers. I like covers that are clever or somehow reflect the theme of the book. 8y
Aquedita I'm all about blue and black. The best combination of all time ;) Your bookstagram game has improved. 8y
moranadatter My favorite color changes with my mood, but books with yellow covers always seem to get my attention. 8y
read_diverse_books @Aquedita Should we be calling it something else if I post on Litsy more frequently? Or is Bookstagram an official term by now that crosses social media platforms? Lol 8y
read_diverse_books @kmdartist How can yellow books NOT get your attention!? I have a few striking and beautiful yellow books. I'll take a picture of them sometime. 8y
moranadatter @read_diverse_books Exactly! They scream "Pick me up!" So I do. It's great marketing, but it probably wouldn't work as well if more book covers were bright yellow. 8y
WOCreads Ahaha I'm terrible and wear mostly monochrome🙈😂 Lovely blue books and even better as it's diverse lit✊ 8y

This isn't on my TBR, but it is definitely a book title that could describe my life. Recently I've been feeling as if everything is just falling into place, and I'm really starting to discover who I am. #24in48

It was a good novel based on loneliness and people's perceptions of others are never what they seem to be. The main character of this story was having to deal with eating disorder and depression.

She cannot bear to catch fireflies in jars. She hates zoos. She will not let her father teach her about constellations, because she will not trap the stars.

She lives in a world made entirely of sky.
