pickAlthough the middle schoolers in this MG novel are much kinder than I remember them being when I moved to a Midwestern town at that age (and can people actually surf along the Gulf Coast of Florida?), the story was sweet enough that I was willing to suspend my disbelief.
Do things like this bother any one else??? How did it get past the editor???
pickA cute & spooky middle grade read! I don‘t usually read stories that are even remotely scary - there were moments in this children‘s book that creeped me out😂 I‘m also getting more used to middle grade plots. Sometimes there are moments that are so obvious or the character is literally repeating what just happened.. but then I remember this book is for 8-12 year olds 🙃 Overall another great rec from my students. | ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
panOverall just kind of boring, and the reason the little dead girl picked Tessa to “haunt” was kind of stupid. The story behind the haunting could have been better but it was so downplayed and it was more mystery solving then it was dealing with a haunting. Plus characters were brought in for no reason other than to create “conflict” that did nothing for the actual plot.
pickThis has a great setting- a haunted house, a ghost, paranormal activities, spooky cemetery. Rather scary in parts. But it‘s much more than a ghost story. It‘s about a girl who navigates a new city, and friendships, amid the eerie incidents in her new home. With the help of her friends, she‘s able to solve the mystery. I like that the author included some historical aspects of Chicago, which it‘s set in. Highly enjoyable read.

Emily at Build Your Library isn't putting together new family reading crates at the moment, but some of the previous boxes are on sale. In honor of the season, we ordered last year's Books that go Bump in the Night box, with spooky books for all ages. We can't keep up with a monthly box, but we like to get them every now and then. They always introduce us to new titles!
Just finished this fun and spooky middle grade read on the train ride home!
pickThis is a great scary book for middle grade readers. There were parts that were truly creepy! I thought the ending fell flat, but it was still a good experience. I know my students will love this.
By midnight tomorrow I'm hoping to have read 12 hours toward the #readathon. I have a lot of adulting I can't get out of, so 12 may be a stretch. But I'm going for it! So far, I've gotten in a solid 1 hour's worth of #reading and was able to finish the final 100 pages of TPIOSS. Now it's time for a snack, then either The History of Bees or Allie and Bea. pickLoved the geographically correct Chicago and the kids real reaction to the paranormal. Thumbs way up. Grab it on Netgalley while it's still there.
