Really good audiobook!!!
Book #2 in the series. Ide really expands IQ‘s character in this installment. So much happens with IQ searching for his brother‘s killer and taking a new case for his brother‘s former girlfriend. Lots of action keeps the story moving with gang members, the Chinese mob, and Vegas loan sharks. #MountTBR
“Sorrow isn‘t a place you can leave behind. It‘s part of you. It changes the way you see, feel, and think, and every once in a while, the pain isn‘t remembered, it‘s relived; the anguish as real and heartbreaking as if it was happening all over again.”
I‘m really digging this series!
This is such a great series, and book 2 is even better than the first!
This second installment does well picking up where the first left off and expanding upon it. We got to know a few characters better, as we met some new players. There were some sections of extreme violence. There's one character that pops up at the end that I didn't remember from earlier in the story—I'm not sure if that's my failure or the author's. I'm still in for at least one more installment.
Saturday morning reading! Also, this is my new favorite coffee mug!
Mixed feelings here. I loved the first book but this one didn‘t hit for me as much. And, I was downright 😡 at one scene (spoiler in comments).
Not sure if I‘ll continue the series.
IDE‘s first book,IQ, is the start of a series starring Isaiah Quintabe, the Sherlock Holmes of South Central LA. Read in order, because IDE‘s writing is continuous! In this second volume, IQ tracks down the killer of his brother whilst embroiled in another case with Chinese monsters, Latin gangs, and Vegas loansharks. A loner, he starts to come out of his shell with a dog and possible Watson. Fun, fast, & tricky tools: hot pepper powder grenades!
Read the first book of these series IQ...liked it but still no substitute for Sherlock Holmes. Joe Ide is an amazing writer and storyteller. The books are well worth the read...
I really like IQ‘s character. This was essentially two stories in one, and I think Ide did a good job connecting and resolving both of them. The next book comes out in October- looking forward to it! 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I really enjoyed the first book so I have high hopes for this one!
I couldn‘t get through it this time. I enjoyed the first one but maybe it just wasn‘t the right time for me to read this one?! Idk. Maybe I‘ll try again eventually but I couldn‘t finish this.
Oooooo, the new IQ book was sooooo good! Even better than the first. I listened to it on audio, and the narrator was amazing. For reference, the above is a bird‘s eye view of Long Beach.
I went straight from Marry Poppins to Righteous, which is like going from Care Bears to Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, both of which I like, but, man, total 180. Both are great on audio.
And it's Wednesday & my first coffeeshop avocado toast with spicy garlic aioli in a month! 🎉🥑🍞☕️A bit heavy on the drizzle but delicious nonetheless.😋Working on catching up with some projects today but first, starting this e-book with a couple of chapters over breakfast.📚
Hopefully this will be better than the last book I just bailed on.
#FierceFeb #ToBeYoungGiftedandBlack Isaiah Quintabe (IQ) is young, gifted and black & now uses his Sherlock Holmes-like talents to solve crimes in his South Central neighborhood. I really enjoyed IQ last year so I was very happy that the second book in the series is on sale today for Kindle for $2.99. 🎉📚👍
🚨🚨🚨🚨 awesome kindle deal today! The first book was soooo good, excited for this one!
I was hand sold the previous book in this series (this is the 2nd). I‘m a sucker for a retelling story. This is an adaptation of the Sherlock set up, but set in East Long Beach, LA, with a street smart man character Isaiah, nicknamed IQ. He is a part of/distanced from, his community but solves their problems & protects. It‘s gritty, with great characters and heart. The audio was available from the library and narrator is fantastic. 👌🏻❤️
Joe Ide cannot write fast enough... love this gripping series so far.
Finished Altered Carbon, a bit underwhelmed but I understand why so many people liked it. By the end I didn‘t care much about the mystery but the action and setting were pretty cool. Moving on to Audiobook 6 of 2018. Loved the first book in this series and so far enjoying this one.!
This book starts with an extremely implausible situation and goes wildly off kilter from there. IQ is back. He and Dodson manage to piss off two different American gangs and the Triads and still go home safe and secure in the end....I enjoyed revisiting these characters, the story line could have used some tightening up.

Finshed this wonderful listen in just 2 days!
An excellent 2nd installment to this original modern day mystery series.
The diversity, humor & crackling witty dialogue of Ide's refreshing cast of characters is just wonderful!
Here's hoping there'll be many more installments to come!
Loved this second book in the IQ Series. You know what's hard to pull off well? Tons of POVs in a mystery/thriller. Know who does it well? Joe Ide.
Two major mysteries here: one very personal and one involving an international gang. Both lead to danger.
Can't wait to see where this writer goes next.
#sundayreading Also check out Joe Ide NPR interview from November 10 if you get a chance
Sensational follow up to IQ. Building on his already strong set of characters, Ide explores themes of violence, revenge, loneliness, love, family, privilege, and pride. Paced like a thriller, Righteous is a class above its competition. The issues and relationships are complex. There are no easy answers. Even most of the villains have back stories rich in detail. Highly recommended. Can't wait for more!
Good sequel, possibly even better than the first and it has a good set up to a third book.

I mean, I AM at the library afterall....so why not puck up some more books while I'm here, right?😏
Plus, there was no way I was passing up the next IQ mystery! Snatched this baby up off the 'New Books' display along with Paper Girls Vol 3. which I'll just make my next #Readathon read.
Happy readying all!🤓
