You never know what you‘ll come across when you‘re out on the road! These dogs weren‘t menacing but I wasn‘t taking any chances as I was outnumbered. I enjoyed this breezy, poignant memoir by a fellow driver. Recap: truckers work incredibly long, hard hours; they have mad skills; they deal with a lot of bullshit; they see beyond the myths of their personas and the country as a whole ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“I‘m dispatching a couple of guys from fucking Saskatchewan and they talk like the Dukes of Hazzard.” 😂 Thoroughly enjoyed this and would recommend it if a memoir about long-haul trucking appeals to you like it did me.

There is/was an audiobook counter in some truck stops? Fascinating! (Oh and Dr Colas is his term for a 1/2 Coke 1/2 Dr Pepper soda).

Husband heard an interview with the author on NPR and picked this up at the library. Memoirs are kinda my thing, and even though trucking isn‘t, I love to read about people and their lives from their own perspective. Finn took a 10 year break from driving that wasn‘t explained in the book. It was in the interview and I‘m disappointed that he didn‘t choose to include the reason...it would really have added more dimension (and honesty). 3/5⭐️ 🚚📦🚚

A veteran bedbugger shares stories from the roads of the U.S. Laced with trucker tidbits (know which states have the best public radio or the difference between a chicken choker & a reefer or which city is known as Shakeytown?), humorous & sentimental anecdotes, and perceptive analysis on themes related to race, class, & the American experience. Love a memoir where I laugh, I learn, & I‘m challenged to consider a different perspective. Recommend!

I have always thought being a trucker would be intriguing. I guess I‘ll live vicariously through Murphy‘s book. 😎

I‘m on the road for a couple days. But these guys! Whew! They‘re on the road a lot! Looking forward to finishing this memoir when I get home. So far it‘s been a humorous and interesting peek into trucker culture.

This will be my #nonfiction pick for January challenge. I just finished a heavy read, so this should be a nice cleanser. I travel a lot by car for my job, and I always joke that I should be a trucker. 🤗

I enjoyed this peek into the life of a moving truck driver. (Extra interesting to me bc I‘ve experienced many military relocations with professional movers.) While the tone felt a bit blustery at times, the anecdotes shared were thoughtfully selected, funny, and well-written. Many insights about customer/service provider interaction (and a few about race/white privilege/class, too). Love that many truckers are way into audiobooks - makes sense!

My new tiny foster kitty. He was rescued from a drainage pipe. I don't know if he's ever had cat food before. Took all day to convince him to try the food and now he won't stop eating. He needs a name. "Cecil" is currently the front runner. #catsoflitsy

Didn't want this engaging book to end. I love standing in another person's shoes and standing in the shoes of a trucker was loads of fun!

I really enjoyed listening to two hours of this on the way home from my sister's. I think I might finally be getting the hang of listening to audio books.

This book reminded me of Hillbilly Elegy in the sense of it being a sociological study but with the lens of a memoir. It combines trucking history, personal stories, and industry information, touches on some modern issues like sprawl and racism and our accumulation of cheap stuff, and overall, is just a good book. Even if you don't have truckers in your family, it makes for a fascinating read.

Unvarnished in tone and content. Funny and clear eyed, especially about race and class. A homage to hard work and a snapshot of a trade that is on its way out. This memoir is for fans of Chronology of Water and Love and Terror on the Howling Plains. It's really a phenomenal book, a reading experience that is, for example, the complete opposite of sitting alone in a dark room with a bird.
