Now a feature film with Woody Harrelson and Laura Dern A new paperback edition of the modern classic timed to the release of the Alexander Payneproduced film version. Meet Wilson, an opinionated middle-aged loner who loves his dog and quite possibly no one else. In an ongoing quest to find human connection, he badgers friend and stranger alike into a series of one-sided conversations, punctuating his own lofty discursions with a brutally honest, self-negating sense of humor. After his father dies, Wilson, now irrevocably alone, sets out to find his ex-wife with the hope of rekindling their long-dead relationship, and discovers he has a teenage daughter, born after the marriage ended and given up for adoption. Wilson eventually forces all three to reconnect as a family--a doomed mission that will surely, inevitably backfire. Daniel Clowes, one of the leading cartoonists of our time creates a thoroughly engaging, complex, and fascinating portrait of the modern egoist--outspoken and oblivious to the world around him. Working in a single-page gag format and drawing in a spectrum of styles, the cartoonist of Ghost World, Ice Haven, and The Death-Ray gives us Wilson, his funniest and most deeply affecting novel to date.

#movie2bookrecs #LauraDern I recently saw the film , I enjoyed it. I like movies/ graphic novels about people who are a bit awkward & not quite the heroes of their own lives.Dern has an amazing range as an actor, I adore the fact that awkward folks are in her wheelhouse. Not afraid to be unglamorous. The film only rated a 47% on Rotten Tomatoes 🍅 Don‘t care , recognized real life here.

Klou I hadn't even heard of this one. Sounds good though. 3y

Wilson is a grouch. He might be a sociopath. He talks a lot and is very fond of his opinions.

At first, I thought this grouchyness would get old soon, but it is interesting to the last page.

BTW, this has explicit content.

#GhostCat was grumpy, too. HRH was annoyed that I wouldn't sit down so she could take a nap, she tried to scratch the wallpaper to get my attention.

Hygge magazines, a graphic novel, ACD's Lost World (how did you know I don't have a paper edition of this?), a beautiful Penguin Edition of Northanger Abbey.

Wilson was kind of a jerk, but he was also a lonely dog person so I gave him a new friend. 🐶💕

Mehso-so

Interesting, quick read. Saw a preview for the film and decided to read it first. Wilson the character is insightful, crass, offensive, good, and selfish. Hard to like and likable. Each page is a scene from Wilson's life. Every one is kind of like its own short story with a punchline in the last panel. I read the first few and thought there was no connection, until the overall narrative became more clear. That's where the brilliance is.
