For the #death prompt of #WickedWhispers, I have decided to share a copy of the letter my skeleton, Eliza R. Cage (R stands for Rib), sent to her boyfriend, Edgar, who resides in Colorado. She hadn't heard from him for quite awhile and was relieved to hear from him! 💀 ❤😁 (I apologize that the font is probably too small to read on a phone. I'll try adding the text to the comments section as well). @eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

WildAlaskaBibliophile My Dearest Edgar,
It was with profound delight that I received thy missive after so long an absence. I had feared the most dire of fates—that thou hadst passed beyond the veil and were deader than dead. How my heart was eased to learn that thou wert merely left to languish upon some dusty shelf through the heat of summer's reign. As for myself, I found solace in the warm embrace of the sun, its beams a balm for these weary, timeworn bones of mine.

WildAlaskaBibliophile Indeed, after the bitter, cold, and shadowed months of winter, I reveled in the chance to drink deep of its golden light, so much-needed to restore my strength.
But now, dear Edgar, the season that is dearest to me descends—Fall, that most beguiling harbinger of death's beauty. How I am entranced by the withering leaves outside my window, their colors turning with such elegant decay. The fallen wood, now but a cradle for rot and the slow bloom of

WildAlaskaBibliophile mushrooms, the fungi weaving their intricate designs upon nature's fading flesh. Oh, how lovely is the sight of life as it ebbs! And soon approach my favored celebrations—Halloween and Día de los Muertos, when the veil between our world and the next grows thin. I have already whispered my desires to Stacy regarding my Halloween costume, and she, industrious as ever, has begun to gather the elements required to bring my vision to life. 2mo

WildAlaskaBibliophile Yet, I shall keep thee in suspense, for I long to surprise thee with what I shall become.
On the 26th of October, we shall host a gathering in honor of All Hallows‘ Eve, and though the cruel distance between us prevents thy physical presence, I shall feel thy spirit linger with us, surely. Perhaps I may even call upon thee through séance, that I might conjure thy shade to our company.

WildAlaskaBibliophile My beloved Edgar, my affection for thee knows no diminishment, and my longing to share in thy company grows ever greater as the days pass. I eagerly await thy next correspondence, trusting it shall come swiftly and with fondness.

Affectionately and eternally thine,
Eliza

Here‘s some fun information: Aldi currently has some creepy coffee in stock. I mean, the coffee itself isn‘t creepy. It won‘t be sneaking into your room in the middle of the night to stare at you while you sleep or anything. But the name of the blends are based on creepiness!

While we chose to get the Ravens Roast, they also have a Sleepy Hollow blend. I‘m hoping they‘ll still have it when we grocery shop again so we can try that, too.

BethM Fun! I love that mug too! 3y
night_shift That mug is too cute! Wondering how that coffee is.. 3y
abookishbutterfly @UnidragonFrag It‘s pretty good! It doesn‘t seem to be as strong as what I‘m used to, but I suppose I‘ll survive! 3y
night_shift @Butterflyamore 😂 cool! I like it pretty strong too but would be willing to give this a try. Always like trying new coffee and tea. 3y

Edgar Allan Poe is a master of horror. If you are looking for spooky vibes you don‘t have to look far. I have an awesome anthology of all his works, and it‘s a perfect read for this time of year. 👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻

My #AuthorPotpourri and Bookish question of the day posts didn‘t go through today, apparently 😧🙈😔! Let‘s hope this batch of posts does...

Last year was the first time I attended this particular #DramaticReading, and here I was again tonight 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻! A dramatic reading of some of #EdgarAllanPoe‘s works, like “The Tell-Tale Heart” and “The Raven”! In a 100+-year-old library 🤯!!! Went with book club folks, and we had a BLAST! 🥳

If any ambitious man have a fancy to revolutionize, at one effort, the universal world of human thought, human opinion, and human sentiment, the opportunity is his own—the road to immortal renown lies straight, open, and unencumbered before him. All that he has to do is to write and publish a very little book. Its title should be simple—a few plain words—"My Heart Laid Bare." But—this little book must be true to its title.

All of Poe's short stories, his novel "The Tale of Arthur Gordon Pym," and a selection of his poetry. When Poe is good, he's really good, but when he's not, it is pretty mediocre. The first half of the novel is an exciting and harrowing adventure, but the second half is racist, colonialist bullshit. The poetry is the strongest section, but is probably helped by being curated.
