She reports reading a graphic novel isn‘t really “reading”, as in the chore of reading a chapter book.

Someday she‘ll be a convert.

Mehso-so

I really liked the art style of this. It's very well suited to the tone of the story. The story itself was so-so to me. It felt underdeveloped, and Goldie seemed to reach conclusions out of nowhere. Given how similar it felt to mystery parodies I've seen in various pop culture, though, I think it was aiming to be modeled after old, corny styles. #comic #mystery

A girl power graphic novel, in which the heroine, Goldie, deals with typical teen life while being a quick-witted detective. This 16 year old is smart, confident, and a force to be reckoned with! With the help of her friends, she finds out the truth behind Mr. Ludwig.

Vibes of Scooby Doo, Nancy Drew, and Speedracer - and maybe a little Archie, too.

mabell @LibrarianRyan I have very little experience in the genre (I really don‘t even know the difference between a graphic novel and a comic book), but I enjoyed it. I‘m going to pick up Volume 2! 5y
LibrarianRyan @mabell the basic difference if length. Graphic novels usually collect all a comic series into book form. Or are a longer form for stories that will not fit in a standard length comic book. Usually, say like I hate Fairyland, each chapter is 1 comic book, three chapters make a graphic novel, and in the case of this title 10 make a “book“. It's really all the same. It's a story told in graphic context. 5y

It was a good story and great illustrations. Basically Goldie and her dad work at a hotel and she is the valet. However, her side job is P.I. Good case and definitely a lot of action. She is definitely a younger version of Kinsey Milone (Alphabet series by Sue Grafton). I'm glad I read it but won't be reading anymore of the series. It didn't grab me like some other graphic novels do.

This book is Nancy Drew, Veronica Mars, and the Lumberjanes rolled into one and set in what appears to be the 1950s. I love the storyline and illustrations. The colors and designs are vibrant and fresh with retro flair. Plus, who wouldn't love a book full of mystery, a German scientist, Russian spies, car chases and races, and a witty girl detective?

What is this adorableness? I fell in love with Goldie and her sass in this first volume! I will for sure be picking up more of this series in the future!
The art style is smooth and right up my alley. It was bright, vibrant, and spunky like Goldie!
The mystery added a fun layer to the story! This one is a must read!

booksandsympathy Both! 💚💛 Unfortunately, I can't drink limeade though because it gives me heartburn. But I love key lime pie and lemon meringue pie. My grandparents had a meyer lemon tree, so I'm a sucker for anything meyer lemon. Also, both lemon curd and key lime curd(yes, it exists) are amazing. 8y
