Another YA title. I gave up on this at first and almost didn‘t finish - there‘s so much going on! But then I decided to quit being a grumpy Gus and give it another go. Daria is 15, Persian and lives in LA. Her friends call themselves The Authentics to distinguish their group from the Nose Jobs. While researching a school assignment Daria finds she isn‘t everything she thought she was. It‘s a lot of drama, but a good story anyway.

This one was just okay. I thought it was similar to Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter, but that Daria was a much more likable character. I really only picked this one up because of it's beautiful cover.

Haven‘t posted in a while. I have been sick for days and days now. I‘ve lost count. Haven‘t really been able to read either. Trying something light. I‘m ready to feel myself again...

I actually read the whole book, which is rare for a book I don‘t like. I was hoping that it‘d get better, but it didn‘t. It started out alright, but it just got more and more boring as the story went along.

“But it‘s our home, and it‘s still a country worth fighting for” makes me think of the situation America is in right now. I know a lot of people aren‘t happy with the way things are going here right now, myself included. But I just want to remind people that the things certain people are doing don‘t define the majority of us. There are still good people here.

I enjoyed this YA about an Iranian American high school girl and her friend group. It was an exploration of identity and what makes up a family. I didn't realize until I was nearly finished that it was written by a man. He did a good job with the voice of a teenage girl.
