Constitution of the United States of America with the Declaration of Independence
Constitution of the United States of America with the Declaration of Independence | United States

In 1787. . . We were given the right to practice the religion of our choice. We were given the right to say what we wanted without persecution. It was written that our house and property were secure from unreasonable search and seizure. We were given the right to a public trial. Fifty-five men we will never know sat in a sweltering room and fought for us. We were given our rights as citizens of the United States. Every second fall, as we return again to the ballot box to decide the course of our country's leadership, every voter must find their way back to that room in Philadelphia. Welcome Books is proud to provide a map. The Constitution of the United States of America, inscribed and illustrated by the master calligrapher, Sam Fink, brings to life the issues underlying the triumphs of this abiding document. Originally published in pen and ink for Random House in 1987, Mr. Fink has gone back to his original black-and-white art and painted it anew, created a full-color masterpiece. The result is glorious. Each amendment, each article, each word so thoughtfully placed in The Constitution has been given Mr. Fink's profound touch. With a powerful intelligence and a wonderful sense of humor, he has provided us with an entry point into this complex document, allowing us to read it with greater ease and understanding. As well as a trade edition, Welcome Books is honored to present a full-color limited edition of 64 loose folios, each 15" x 22," exquisitely designed and produced--matching in its manufacture the stunning quality of Mr. Fink's ambition and the gravitas of the original document. In 1787, we were entrusted with our most important living document, The Constitution of the United States of America. Have we kept it safe? To answer this, we must begin by reading it, each and every one of us--so that we may claim our own intimate knowledge of its content; so that we may never forget its tenets; so that we may remember the kind of world we want to live in. This, Sam Fink, in his direct and unadorned way, respectful and loving, helps us do.

If anything has ever been important. This is important.

I am more than my uterus.

There are so many things that are not referenced in the constitution. If you think this ruling stops at Roe you are very wrong.

ImperfectCJ Hi, fellow San Diegans! Just saw this...I'd be up for an SD Litten something (maybe not in person for a little while...). There are quite a few of us on Litsy now! 5y

I don't fully understand the 25th amendment and I keep seeing it all over Facebook.

maximoffs It deals with presidential succession as well as who makes the decisions when the president is incapable of doing so. However there is another? Act? From the 80s I believe that can complicate things. But essentially, it deals with who is in charge if the president is deemed incapable or dies 7y
maximoffs It was written after JFK was shot, for context 7y

tournevis Actual parchment? Like made from animal skin parchment? 8y
JoeStalksBeck @tournevis nah! It's the translucent kind. I wish it was the ones from ancient times😞 8y
tournevis @GoodallBookHaul Also, more imprortantly, less expensive. Because, you know, animal skin. (As a nitpicking aside, actual parchment was made and used well into the 1600s, so not quite ancient times) 8y
tournevis One of the few things I envy from the US is how well you know your constitution (on the whole). I make my students read the Canadian constitution, and most of them have never read it, not even the Charter of Rights and Freedoms! Can you imagine? 8y
JoeStalksBeck @tournevis much less expensive lol! I just love that it's not that strange glossy poster type😊 8y
tournevis @GoodallBookHaul Well at least yours fits on a poster. Canada's is like 70 pages long! 8y
JoeStalksBeck @tournevis what?! Omg they need to read it! It's awesome you have them read it! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏👏👏👏 8y
JoeStalksBeck @tournevis oh dear! At least they are thorough 😉 8y
tournevis @GoodallBookHaul But, it is 70+ pages lomg of legalese, so there is that. 8y

Downloaded from Amazon for a buck. Required reading for every American, especially now. #history #government #civics #stayinformed

LauraBeth I've concluded that the most useful and worthwhile class I took in college was Constitutional Law. I refer to it and think about it almost daily. And I've been out of college since '93 😀 8y

Loving the Overdue podcast, the podcast that tells you the plot, background and importance of the books you should have read already. This one about the Constitution, its origins, and the Bill of Rights. Really fun and quite timely 🤔😏

Tanner I LOVE Craig and Andrew on Overdue - it's one of my favourite podcasts! 8y

I goofed off a lot during my high school American history class, and my citizenship class was...subpar. Now, more than ever, I have the need to understand law, government, and politics much better than I do. I'm not sure how well I'll absorb it just through reading--I might enroll in a college course sometime this year--but if you have any recs on primers, I'd love to hear 'em!

Book 8 in #BooksToReadDuringATrumpPresidency... The Constitution of the United States.

Because we should all read and understand the User's Manual!

BekahB Absolutely! The Overdue podcast did a breakdown of the U.S. Constitution in this week's episode (#220). It was a great refresher. 8y
books_cats_art I'm going to have to check that out @BekahB ! 8y
