HATED this book. Would‘ve been DNF #1 of 2025 if I hadn‘t been buddy-reading with @Lin3han . Four middle-aged white British men wander into the woods and awaken an old Swedish god, who defends her territory. I was rooting for everyone to die bc they were all terrible for their blatant misogyny, fatphobia, antisemitism, and homophobia.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️having always been afraid of being lost in the woods, this scary, claustrophobic book is intense and will make you think twice about hiking lol. The first half is definitely better than the last half but still a page turner.

Folk horror and mythology, right up my street! I read this over two days and found it hard to put down. Creepy and atmospheric rather than scary, I‘ve enjoyed all of this authors work so far

Contains some dragging along the way but it was a good story, with some pretty scary scenes. Not the best horror book I‘ve read but a great way to kick October off 🎃

Full disclosure, I'd already seen the Netflix adaptation before reading this one which I thought was pretty good so hopes were high when I went into this book.

This book is split into two parts and part one was brilliant, part two not so much. Even knowing what was going to happen I was jumpy, the atmosphere was intense and I fully admit that I couldn't read this before sleeping.

Part two really let the book down for me unfortunately.

1. In a tent backpacking in the mountains or on the bank of a Florida spring!
2. Camp Sunshine
3. The Ritual (tagged) keeps coming to mind. It's a creepy camp story. Spooky camp stories are my favorite! It's also a movie on Netflix.
4. Finish my current reads, audiowalks, and read a spooky camp story! Maybe watch the Fear Street camp movie, too!

Four friends embark on a hike together but it all turns very nasty and extremely creepy! I'm a wimp at heart but secretly (not so secret now) enjoyed this one. It goes from being fairly normal with a hint of horror to just plain messed up. Not sure I could handle the film adaptation though! ⭐⭐⭐⭐

If I needed another reason to not hike in the woods, this book just gave me about 6. *shiver*
Horror books are generally pretty wordy so I wasn't surprised that there was enough description in this to put me to sleep but this was so unsettling that I didn't want to out it down, especially closer to the end. Don't read before bed....it might not give you nightmares, but you might have some weird-ass dreams 😂

The beginning to this book was great, really caught your attention and was creepy. However the ending was a little bit disappointing. Would still recommend though!

Looked forward all day to coming home and opening my #HalloweenGoesPostal goodies. Everything is so cute and these books are awesomely creepy picks. Thanks @DiruVamp I love some "messed up" horror.

This starts as a Blair Witch Project set up with grumpy middle aged men but then it goes soooo crazy and dark and scary! 😲 Full of suspense, gore and scares I was completely gripped and finished it in just two sittings, I had to find out how it ended!!! 😱 a bit Stephen king/dean koontz in style, a cracking horror book and scary read! 🙈

Oh this sounds like the perfect Halloween read! 👻 I have a massive stack of spooky reads ready for October so I go and buy more?! What's wrong with me?!?! 🤦🏻‍♀️

It's been some time since the kindle were all assembled on one table. I should have added the laptop and mobile to this, since I'm using the App on both.
My first book on the kindle was "The Ritual", a great disappointment, but I love my eReaders and never leave the house without one.

Wow. Four friends get lost in the deep woods of Sweden while on a holiday and it just goes downhill from there. The first half was fast paced and suspenseful and scary. The second half was a little drawn out and not as action packed but terrifying. Creepy. This would make a phenomenal movie!

Wow this book is flipping intense! I still have about 200 pages to go but my goodness!!

READ THIS BOOK!😱. If you want a book you CANNOT put down until you finish, one you dare not sleep on, this is it. I read this last October, & became a lifelong Nevill fan. Scary, scary stuff. Read it, & spread the word📚📚📚

I'm a big horror movie fan & am trying to get into horror lit. This was def one of the creepiest books I've ever read. Total page turner! You can't read quickly enough to uncover what happens to the group of campers in this book 👀💀👍🏻👍🏻

Recommended by my sister, who is on a quest to find the scariest horror books and movies. Pretty creepy indeed. The last third of the book didn't go quite where I expected it to go, but it was still fun. Probably helped that I read it while answering the door to trick-or-treaters on Halloween! 🎃
