This third volume in the Descender series gives us backstories for many of the characters, including the robots. Volume 2 ends with a cliffhanger and this volume doesn‘t advance the story arc beyond that point. What we get instead is why. Character motivation. Love Lemire‘s writing, and Nguyen‘s artwork is top notch. I really enjoyed this and am eager to move on to volume 4. #comics

Ha! Just when I was wondering if Telsa Nagoki‘s perfect hair ever became dishevelled.

3/5⭐ While I mostly found the backstories important/enjoyable, there was a lot of repetition and almost no forward momentum on the overall story arc. #projectSAMS

Between and pick and a so-so. Like the last volume of Descender, it took me until almost the end to really get back into the story, and then it ended suddenly. I hope there will be more to this series - I need to know what happens to Driller, Scoops, and Bandit!

An entire volume of peripheral character backstories? Meh. The problem isn't the stories themselves--Lemire dishes up a lot of emotional impact with very little space to work in--but there's no forward momentum in the main storyline, and we've now been paused at a very dramatic moment for...half a year? Or something? I just wish the important scenes (evil Tim's abuse, Driller's accident) could have been integrated into the larger conflict.

ChasingOm Hmmm...maybe I'll wait for volume 4 to come out before I buy 2 & 3. 🤔 8y
Jokila @ChasingOm good idea. I think 3 would be way more enjoyable if you had 4 to read after it 8y
Chachic That illustration is gorgeous though! 8y

Backstories are nice and important, but I would have liked it more if they had integrated it throughout the series instead of making a whole Volume only of backstories 😔

I am so in love with Dustin Nguyen's watercolor art in this series. This volume was interesting with all the backstories, but like the other reviews, it wasn't quite what I was hoping for. I'm awaiting volume 4 and the main story with anticipation. #comics

Descender vol 3

I liked it, but didn't like it, but still loved it 👍

I liked how readers learned about the back stories of each of the main characters - including the doggie robbie 😆 I didn't like that the story didn't progress much since vol 2. Lastly, I still love this series and am eagerly waiting for the release of volume 4! Must read more 😬😬😬 👍 👍 👍

I dunno, while I appreciate the backstories, this volume felt like a whole lot of filler. I'm still loving the art and it was nice to get some history on a few of the characters... I'm just hoping we are back to the action of the main story soon. (Side note that has nothing to do with anything - the character pictured is named Telsa. Whenever I see her name in print my brain converts it to Tesla... still after 3 volumes. Ah well)

DGRachel I'm struggling with a book now whose MC is named Pendergast. I keep changing it to Prendergast, because I have a co-worker with that last name. It's slightly distracting. 😱 8y
Eyelit @DGRachel it's super distracting, right? Well I am glad I'm not alone with that phenomenon 😆 8y
