Ancillary Mercy
Ancillary Mercy | Ann Leckie
The stunning conclusion to the New York Times bestselling trilogy that began with Ancillary Justice, the only novel to win the Hugo, Nebula, and Arthur C. Clarke Awards. For a moment, things seemed to be under control for Breq, the soldier who used to be a warship. Then a search of Athoek Station's slums turns up someone who shouldn't exist, and a messenger from the mysterious Presger empire arrives, as does Breq's enemy, the divided and quite possibly insane Anaander Mianaai - ruler of an empire at war with itself.Breq refuses to flee with her ship and crew, because that would leave the people of Athoek in terrible danger. The odds aren't good, but that's never stopped her before. In the Ancillary world: 1. Ancillary Justice2. Ancillary Sword3. Ancillary Mercy

I did it! I started this trilogy in 2016 and completely stalled on reading the third one. But this month I re-read the first two and FINALLY read the third book and it was great. Some complain about all the emoting that happens, but I loved it. I love that it is open ended. That no one has all the answers, least of all Breq. I love her platonic relationship with Seivarden and her parental one with Tisarwat. Great space opera. 🚀❤️ #SeriesLove24

132/150 Wow!! This was an amazing conclusion to the Radch Space trilogy. Going in, I wasn't sure how this was going to turn out, how Breq and Seivarden was going to defeat the tyrant. I'm very satisfied with the conclusion, which kept me guessing until the end, and I want more.

Not the most interesting first line, but I'm very exciting to start the final book of the Radch Space trilogy. The first two books were awesome, I hope there's a satisfying conclusion.

The end of this series does not disappoint! Leckie builds tension over the course of 300 pages and then let‘s it dissolve in ten. Like a sugar cube in tea, the story‘s all the sweeter for it.

Finishing a series, blowing the powder off my space gun and returning it to my holster like a pro.

This series won a space station full of awards and deserved them. The first one is still my favourite with the most in depth character arc but two and three are great fun, a rollicking adventure, great AI (yes I always say that, I do love a good hearted AI) and possibly the best alien species ever. Heart eyes for the Presger 😍

Ruthiella “Blowing off power from my space gun” 😂😂😂 I still need to read this third book, but it‘s been so long since I read the first two...I feel the need to reread them to catch myself up. 🤔 3y
Centique @Ruthiella I have started so many series and not finished them! But yes this is worth a reread (or if you don‘t have time, I sometimes read the plot on Wikipedia to refresh my memory) 3y

Finished reading the Ancillary trilogy and loved it. It's grand space opera but its also an intimate and subtle story of relationships. It subverts the tropes of grand space opera but somehow sustains the excitement and tension usually associated with the genre. Assassins, warships, AIs, a space tyrant and alien races confront each other but matters are best resolved... over tea? Loved this.

Here‘s the thing, y‘all: I read ANCILLARY JUSTICE for the hype and picked up ANCILLARY SWORD because I was a Hugo voter the year it was nominated, but MERCY? I don‘t have a compelling reason to finish it. I can appreciate what Leckie does here, but I‘m not drawn to the story and I have no emotional investment in the characters.

I hit 44% on my morning run and decided that was it. Time to listen to something else.

rretzler I think it‘s a series that you either really like or really don‘t - there doesn‘t appear to be much middle ground. I happened to think they were wonderful but I understand that they‘re not for everyone! 6y
xicanti @rretzler I wouldn‘t say I disliked the series. I just wanted more of an emotional hook than I got. Without that, I liked the first two just fine but didn‘t find them especially memorable, aside from the pronouns, and I wasn‘t able to sink into this third one. 6y

If you want a sci-fi book that is fast paced and glorifies war, do not read this book. If you want a book that glorifies free will, equal opportunity, incredible significant beings and being brave enough to move forward even though all the details/factors cannot be known, read this book.

A solid conclusion to a wonderful series. I love that Leckie writes a new story with each volume, and how her conclusion is hopeful without neatly (and unrealistically) resolving every outstanding question. I recommend this entire series.

I almost forgot to post my review of this, got distracted by all those shiny shiny new books. I very much enjoyed this trilogy, it was unique & innovative like all the very best SciFi is. But I have to say, the ending, while not awful, did seem a bit rushed & not as awesome as the trilogy deserved it to be. I do still very much recommend this series & this author, I just hope any new work is concluded better. Still 4⭐️

minkyb I have only read the first. Strange but interesting. Must get around to the next two. 6y

After falling down a “booktube” rabbit hole the last few hours,I‘m getting back to the third & final book in Ann Leckies Ancillary series.I‘m loving this series so much, I don‘t want it to end!😫I‘m still on a SciFi kick atm so I‘ll maybe pick up Lifelik3 by Jay Kristoff or maybe get straight onto the new Becky Chambers.Or even Red Rising.🤔I‘m mood reading right now & it seems to be keeping me out of my slump so hurray for that. Now back to Breq.

Decided to jump right into the third book in the Ancillary trilogy by Ann Leckie. Very much enjoying her writing, I love clever SciFi, stories that are unique in some way. I‘ve found that this genre has more scope for authors to really let their imaginations fly. Even more so than fantasy. I‘ve read a lot over the years & very rarely have I come across a boring SciFi story. This one picks up after the events at Athoek Station in Ancillary Sword.🛸

Love everything about this book & the entire Imperial Radch trilogy. Strong characters, complex worldbuilding, exquisite plotting, & BIG questions—identity, humanity, individuality, freedom, sentience, AI, imperialism, & occupation to name but a few—make this trilogy one of the best science fiction series (really any series) I‘ve read in a very, very, long time (maybe ever). Breq!!! On to Provenance (set in same world). Highly recommended.
