So excited! The kids bookshelf is complete!
We moved house 2 years ago & the kids books were just put back on our bookshelf just as they came out of the packing boxes (not in their original order as they once had been at our previous house) which has bothered me since the move.

Well today, after about 7 hours of sorting it's done!
Oh gosh, such a beautiful sight.
I think I will be staring at my shelf all night.....

Freespirit Looks amazing! 5y

Thousand-Lives Love it! 😍 5y
Curiouser_and_curiouser @Billypar Thank you. A lot of these books are from when I was a child, but I've also loved collecting new books for them as they grew. I love reading my kids the same books I loved as a child, although their tastes do differ sometimes. 5y
Curiouser_and_curiouser @AppuNthebooks Absolutely! That and Ping were my 2 all time faves. 5y
Curiouser_and_curiouser @Freespirit Thank you. I am very proud. I hope to keep it for my future grandchildren :) 5y

I read this to my children: the boy with the long name who fell down the well. It‘s a re-creation of an ancient Chinese folktale teaching the danger of having such an honorable name as Tikki tikki tembo-no sa rembo-chari bari ruchi-pip peri pembo.

Hazel2019 This is a great book! However, my 5 year old did worry about the little boy for days after reading the book...😊 5y
Eggs Seems like a natural reaction 5y

I do not think that I would use this book in my classroom. The story is alright but I think time spent on this book could be used on a book that had more meaning to it.

Mehso-so

Tikki Tikki Tembo is a picture book that follows two brothers that fall into a well. The one brother who has a significantly longer name finds it harder to yell out his name for help. This story is good for a laugh in the classroom.

Tikki Tikki Tembo by Arlene Model illustrated by Blair Lent is a TL Boston Globe Horn Book Award winner. This is a great RA picture book for early elementary students. This story is about 2 brothers who are playing near a well and they both feel in. Since Tikki's name was so long to say it took longer to get him out after he fell in. This then made it where the names of children had to be shorter. #UCFLAE3414F19

AleciaM This repetitive folktale would be great for ESOL 14 simplify your speech by making it slower and redundant, and for UDL 2.5 illustrate through multiple mead.
I have found a cpalms lesson on this book.

TL/ Boston Globe Horn book award/CR
I remember this book from childhood
b/c of the character's long name it's a fun story to read aloud
Said to originate in either Japanese or Chinese folklore (debated as to which)
Could be used to compare/contrast to American folklore
www.rif.org/literacy-central/book/tikki-tikki-tembo-spanish-edition Spanish version & activities
UDL 2.1
ELL Reference a traditional tale from their cultural background

Pickpick

Tikki tikki tembo is a TL story by Arlene Mosel, illustrated by Blair Lent. Tikki tikki tembo-no sa rembo-chari bari ruchi-pip peri pembo and his brother Chang get into some trouble by the well, much to the disdain of their mother and the Old Man With The Ladder. This story is great for reading aloud and storytelling! Cpalms has suggestions for a close reading lesson: http://www.cpalms.org/Public/PreviewResourceLesson/Preview/59178

HayleeM I absolutely loved your story telling! It was so creative and you were awesome. It's such a cute, fun story to share a different culture with students! 8y
DrSpalding This TL storytelling was stellar! Your ability to remember and recite his name was impressive. 8y
LaurenMcl Loved your story telling of this book! I remember this from elementary school. I also remember my instructor using this book in my first MAE class use this to model incorporating math and literature. I can't tell you what math it was at the moment though! 8y
SarahF I LOVED your read aloud! I'll be honest, after you read it I had the "most honorable mother" quote stuck in my head! ?? 8y

Man Cub and I had a race to see who could say Tikki Tikki Tembo's full name the fastest tonight. I won, at least that's what I'm telling people. Then I folded laundry for an hour (I hate folding laundry). Now finally I'm in bed and read to read my own book.
