So excited! The kids bookshelf is complete!
We moved house 2 years ago & the kids books were just put back on our bookshelf just as they came out of the packing boxes (not in their original order as they once had been at our previous house) which has bothered me since the move.
Well today, after about 7 hours of sorting it's done!
Oh gosh, such a beautiful sight.
I think I will be staring at my shelf all night.....
I read this to my children: the boy with the long name who fell down the well. It‘s a re-creation of an ancient Chinese folktale teaching the danger of having such an honorable name as Tikki tikki tembo-no sa rembo-chari bari ruchi-pip peri pembo.

I do not think that I would use this book in my classroom. The story is alright but I think time spent on this book could be used on a book that had more meaning to it.
Tikki Tikki Tembo is a picture book that follows two brothers that fall into a well. The one brother who has a significantly longer name finds it harder to yell out his name for help. This story is good for a laugh in the classroom.
Tikki Tikki Tembo by Arlene Model illustrated by Blair Lent is a TL Boston Globe Horn Book Award winner. This is a great RA picture book for early elementary students. This story is about 2 brothers who are playing near a well and they both feel in. Since Tikki's name was so long to say it took longer to get him out after he fell in. This then made it where the names of children had to be shorter. #UCFLAE3414F19

I remember this book from childhood
b/c of the character's long name it's a fun story to read aloud
Said to originate in either Japanese or Chinese folklore (debated as to which)
Could be used to compare/contrast to American folklore

Tikki tikki tembo is a TL story by Arlene Mosel, illustrated by Blair Lent. Tikki tikki tembo-no sa rembo-chari bari ruchi-pip peri pembo and his brother Chang get into some trouble by the well, much to the disdain of their mother and the Old Man With The Ladder. This story is great for reading aloud and storytelling! Cpalms has suggestions for a close reading lesson: http://www.cpalms.org/Public/PreviewResourceLesson/Preview/59178

Man Cub and I had a race to see who could say Tikki Tikki Tembo's full name the fastest tonight. I won, at least that's what I'm telling people. Then I folded laundry for an hour (I hate folding laundry). Now finally I'm in bed and read to read my own book.
