Murder under the Christmas Tree
Murder under the Christmas Tree: Ten Classic Crime Stories for the Festive Season | Cecily Gayford
10 posts | 7 read | 2 to read
Murder most festive... A locked room mystery solved with a flourish on Boxing Day. Blackmail on Christmas Eve. A missing jewel discovered in a very festive hiding place. A body slumped in a chair on Christmas morning, still listening to carols. The midnight theft of a gift intended for a saint. Crime doesn't take a holiday, so these - and many more - are the puzzles that make up Murder under the Christmas Tree, a collection of festive mysteries featuring fictional sleuths from Lord Peter Wimsey to Sherlock Holmes, Cadfael to Father Brown. This is the very best of Christmas murder and mayhem - so settle into your armchair, put another log on the fire and take a bite of your mince pie. Just make sure it's not poisoned...

10 classic stories that take place at Christmas, including authors such as Arthur Conan Doyle, Marjory Allingham, G K Chesterton etc bit also a story from Val McDermid and Ian Rankin.

Sone good stories but as always with short stories you are often wanting more.

11th book finished for #DashingDecember

Ibwas trying to be festive with this collection of Christmas themed crime stories. Not all had murder. They were all dated and boring stories.

#WondrousWednesday thanks for the tags @Eggs and @Crazeedi
1: ooh tricky one. I'm loving Karin Slaughter at the moment. But I guess I'd have to say the Queen of murder Agatha Christie
2: I panned a couple but I can't remember the titles. Panned because the stories just didn't appeal one made light of flouting covid rules.
3: My health, its been a rough year with an operation gone wrong leading to major surgery but I'm here and alive.

Crazeedi I have been where you were, I hope your healing continues and you regain full health❤ 3y
Eggs Wishes and hope for your healing ❤️‍🩹 3y
kezzlou85 @Crazeedi I hope you're better now too then. Thanks getting there just slower and of course wasn't expecting the major surgery but that's life. I have abnormal organs apparently. 3y

There's ten short stories in this and I enjoyed most of them. I think my favourite was adventure of the blue carbuncle. Many well recognised authors and characters. #WinterGames2020 #MerryReaders. Already counted 3 stories so 175 points plus 5 hours for #Averymerrybingo and another bingo square. @Clwojick @Jadams1776 226pts

kezzlou85 @Clwojick thank you. 4y
veritysalter I love these collections, some classic, some more modern. I‘ve found lots of new (to me) mystery writers through them ♥️ 4y
kezzlou85 @veritysalter me too. This is the first one for me but am loving it. 4y
veritysalter I read ‘A Very Murderous Christmas‘ and ‘Ghosts of Christmas Past‘ last year for #WinterGames and have bought ‘Murder on Christmas Eve‘ and ‘Murder at Christmas‘ for this year. The British Crime Library books are excellent too. 4y

I picked this up in a hospital waiting room while I was waiting to get seen for a broken bone. It was the best option of a bad bunch of old romance novels, and I should have gone with the romance 😅 it would not have been finished if the wait wasn‘t so long 👎🏼

Although I‘m not a huge fan of short stories ... this collection was great. Great little Christmas read. I‘m excited to make this another tradition of the books I read (or parts of) next year as well
