I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join in if you want!

Beautiful, thoughtful story. Dragged on a little too long imo, however that might just be the funk I‘m in. Good story.

In the south-west of Ireland, rugged mountains meet bright blue lakes and thick forests. Deep in the woods, a young woman lives alone, forever secluded from the world, her life a well-kept secret. She possesses an extraordinary talent, the likes of which no-one has seen before: a gift that will earn her the nickname Lyrebird. #melody #jamminjune

Rating 2/5

I have no idea what went on in this book. It was like Ahern just starting writing and went where the story took her - to the land of boredom.

Lyrebird is about a woman named Laura hidden away in the wild mountains of Ireland, discovered by a documentary crew who want to capture her story and showcase it to the world.
(Contd in comments)

olivia.ferz She is portrayed as having the ability to mimic any sound on Earth which is described as magical and all of its synonyms in the dictionary. Really. It was 250 pages of just reading how magical her mimicry was. I just wanted to scream, "We get it! Now give us a story!" It was in the last 100 pages of the book that Ahern finally decides it's time to bring in some story-telling and tries to save the book by barraging us with last minute details. 4y
olivia.ferz The main character of the story Laura was so annoying. A 26 year old acting like a naive fragile kid is not very appealing. Also the love triangle between Laura and two of the film crew was just cringy. On second thought, all the characters were just plain and annoying with no depth into them. I didn't get to know their feelings, their dreams, their inhibitions. They felt very flat, one dimensional. 4y
olivia.ferz Cecilia Ahern has this ability of writing stories with a touch of magic and warmth. I've read 4 of her previous novels which were just perfect for a cozy read along with a cup of coffee for the cheesy romantic in us. But Lyrebird just misses the mark. 4y

I can't seem to get into this book. I don't care about the story. But I don't want to put it down. What if it gets interesting right after I DNF it and I miss out on a good story?

TheAromaofBooks The age-old dilemma! Although I usually find that after a hundred pages, if I still don't like it, it doesn't usually improve! 5y

Whhhhhhhat happened in this book? Nothing. It was long, flat and uneventful. Incredibly dull. It pains me to say this because she is hands down my favourite author.

I have to admit, I'm a hopeless fan of romance novels. Though I'm also aware that some of them can be way too cheesy! However, this wasn't one of them for me. Through Ahern's writing, I was able to dive into the story and feel the pain, the anger, the happiness the characters were feeling. It was beautifully written, the characters were created with attention to details and originality. Certainly recommend it! #lyrebird #ceceliaahern

The great ending wasn't enough to save this from a so-so, I'm afraid. There was a fair bit of skim reading going on. The characters were likeable enough, but the story just didn't seem to go anywhere, and I have to admit to not being a fan of these reality type talent shows. This is what happens when you don't read the synopsis on the book cover!!

I'm off work and ill today, so I have my dog 'blanket', a new release playing (Depeche Mode) and a book! The jury is out as to whether the book is any good at this point, and I'm nearly half way through. I'm still waiting for something to happen!

batsy How's the new DM album? 😊 8y
Clare_Riley I really enjoyed it! It's quite dark - I get the distinct impression that they're not happy with the state of the world at the moment!! 8y
batsy Wouldn't expect anything less from them tbh! I was a bit nervous, as I often am when old favs put out new music, but I'm definitely looking forward to hearing it. 8y

I agree with what other people are saying, this book is very different from Ahern's older style. Less showy, very dramatic romance. There is drama, there is romance, but this is much more focussed on characters. I liked it. The ending was satisfying. It wasn't perfect, but it was a fine way to while away a quiet afternoon. Left me longing to get out and about and breathe in the Spring.

It was a good read. Fire 🔥 couch and a cuppa. I think the story had much more potential as a story than expressed in this book. But that might be that I'm not a romance book fan 🙈

I'm a big fan of Cecelia Ahern's older stuff but this didn't do it for me. It's upsetting to say but the plot seemed to move too quickly to be believable and I didn't feel anything for the characters, wish Rachel featured more in the novel as she was the most realistic. The premise of the story, set in rural Ireland where a young girl is found who can mimic sounds and noises is great but the direction the plot went in didn't do the idea justice.

Another So-So to mostly Pan. 2.5 ⭐️ for me. For the most part I felt this was a chore to pick up. I would look at it sadly instead of with joy about reading. Too many times where it repeated and spun around in a circle, never propelling forward. Many parts were skimmed over because they were exactly what I read 100 pages before. 🙁

StellaDz I have never read another book of her's after P.S. I Love You. It was the only storyline that interested me. I was hopeful for this one though ☹️️ 8y
Penny_LiteraryHoarders @StellaDz this was the first I've ever read by her. I *almost* bought this one too. So glad I borrowed it from the library! 8y
StellaDz @Penny_LiteraryHoarders from what I remember of P.S. I Love You, it was quite a tearjerker but quite good. I read it years ago though. I guess she's a one-but wonder for me... ☹️️ 8y

This is just okay right now. I'm not finding it as compelling as I had hoped it would be - it's leaving me looking longingly at all the stacks of books waiting for me to get to soon. Now much sooner than later. *sigh*

PrezBookster I hate that! But I'm too stubborn to bail! 8y
