This RF book, Green Eyes by Abe Birnbaum is a great addition to your home or school library! It won the Caldecott Honor. It would be perfect for a read aloud in the classroom for younger students(pre-k to 2nd),to talk about different concepts like the seasons or farm life. The story is all about this mischievous little kitten who escapes his box and explores the word(farm) around him. https://www.pre-kpages.com/books-about-seasons-for-preschool/

Brennap A UDL principle that is perfectly aligned with this book is 3.1 which is activating/supplying background knowledge. The illustrations will allow the children to connect and clearly understand the book. An ESOL strategy that can be used is 4. Link lesson topic to students‘ prior knowledge. So again activating that prior knowledge about the seasons or farm animals prior to reading or even during the read aloud is useful! 5y
DrSpalding I have seen this book numerous times and have not read it. I am adding this to my stack. Teaching about rural life is actually a standard in social studies in the primary grades. This could be a great read aloud prior to a lesson about the seasons or farm animals. 5y

I haven‘t been on Litsy much lately because I‘ve been experiencing some issues with my phone screen being too sensitive while using the app. I can‘t seem to scroll thru without every single link and every single hashtag launching on every post. Is anyone else experiencing this?

The illustrations are kid-like and fun to follow along with and the story is charming and sweet. I think this is a good book for the animal lovers in any class.

I also liked the descriptive words used in this story. Great for younger kids learning vocabulary. Example: “the earth was soft, the grass was green and tall, the flowers had many colors, and the trees were very big.

This Caldecott award winning book is written in the perspective of a kitten, who gets older as the story goes along. The theme I picked up form the story is that getting older can be scary, but it comes with similarities to your normal life along with great new things (like being strong enough to climb out of a box!).

This Caldecott honor books that was published in 1953 follows the life of a kitten. This little kitten begins in a box and explores the world around it. After lots of exploring the kitten goes back to her safe box and begins exploring the next day. This book is a good way to introduce different animals and the different seasons as well. It helps with empathy and tells a cute story that you can connect to.
