Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star
Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star | Nikki Sixx
In one of the most unique memoirs of addiction ever published, Motley Crue's Nikki Sixx shares mesmerizing diary entries from the year he spiraled out of control in a haze of heroin and cocaine, presented alongside riveting commentary from people who were there at the time, and from Nikki himself. When Motley Crue was at the height of its fame, there wasn't any drug Nikki Sixx wouldn't do. He spent days -- sometimes alone, sometimes with other addicts, friends, and lovers -- in a coke and heroin-fueled daze. The highs were high, and Nikki's journal entries reveal some euphoria and joy. But the lows were lower, often ending with Nikki in his closet, surrounded by drug paraphernalia and wrapped in paranoid delusions. Here, Nikki shares those diary entries -- some poetic, some scatterbrained, some bizarre -- and reflects on that time. Joining him are Tommy Lee, Vince Neil, Mick Mars, Slash, Rick Nielsen, Bob Rock, and a host of ex-managers, ex-lovers, and more. Brutally honest, utterly riveting, and shockingly moving, The Heroin Diaries follows Nikki during the year he plunged to rock bottom -- and his courageous decision to pick himself up and start living again."

Love the rawness & the honesty. However, maybe in updates he could footnote the parts that are casually racist & actively misogynistic to show areas for growth. We 💯 knew swastikas sucked back then. They still suck. Fuck nazis wherever they exist, and fuck their propaganda. Glad he has his shit together.

Woah, what a roller coaster!
Eye opening, frightening, heartbreaking, bizarre, and at times, funny.
I couldn't put this down. It was so addictive.
I think this is my new favourite rockstar memoir.

For those who aren't familiar - Nikki Sixx is the bassist and songwriter for Mötley Crüe. He was a major drug addict and alcoholic. This is his diary entries from the Girls, Girls, Girls tour... the year he died and came back to life. Literally.

I've always had a soft spot for these two. I love how open they are about their demons. I love that Steven Tyler was looking out for Nikki when he needed help and was at an all time low.

Also, the bottom photograph is brilliant. 🖤

Two sides of addiction. It‘s really impressive that Nikki Sixx is such an advocate for sobriety now. I haven‘t read Empire of Pain yet. I know it‘s going to make me mad.

I can‘t say enough about this book. Not always an easy read. Bit one that needs to be picked up if you have questions about how an addict thinks. Helped me a great deal with processing my sisters death due to addiction.

JenReadsAlot I'm sorry for your loss. 5y
KristiAhlers @JenReadsAlot thank you. It was not fun to watch someone self destruct like that. But I‘m slowly moving on time doesn‘t heal the hurt but it does slow for a scab to form if that makes sense. 5y

I was a huge fan back in the day - I remember the rumors of him overdosing and coming back to life - but had no idea of the personal hell he was living in. Reading his book of a years worth of journal entries and reflections on those entries by Nikki and friends gives insight into the dark world of addiction - and that there is hope.

I finished listening to this audiobook last night and I loved the entire book. It is definitely eye opening, shocking, and disturbing at points. There were even a few times I found myself laughing. I love Nikki Sixx and I have even more respect for this man than I did before reading/listening to this book.

I read this one when @HotdogZanzabaar and I first met because it‘s one of his favorite books. I like the diary format and I like reading about the salacious and unbelievable life Nikki Sixx led. But overall this isn‘t really my scene. So while I surprised HZB with new 10th anniversary edition, I won‘t be going in for a reread.

I read this for the first time about 10 years ago and I was blown away. Reading it now just reminds me to be grateful for what I have and to cherish those close to me. It is a sobering look at addiction and the mind of a man who is trapped in a hell of his own creation, and proof that you can make it out.

Even though I have the physical book, I opted to listen to Nikki Sixx read it because 1) I love him & 2) listening to him tell his story of addiction is not only powerful, but emotional. The fact that he can be so openly raw to the entire world is just so inspiring and gives me hope to keep fighting my fight against Depression. I know it's not the same thing as drug addiction, but there are some similarities. #pop19 #abookwrittenbyamusician.

I may have been slightly naughty at work today, but I couldn't help myself.

I LOVE Nikki Sixx, and Mötley Crüe, so I had to get his book while also ordering the 10th anniversary edition of "The Dirt" because the movie will be on Netflix come May ???

I found the cozy mystery by chance and it'll be perfect for one of the #pop19 prompts. Plus I laughed a little too hard at the title because it's super corny like me ?

My husband wasn‘t a huge reader when we met (and that hasn‘t changed 😂😂) and he told me this was his favorite book. Since we were newly dating, I read it. I can‘t say I‘m a fan but there are certain parts that have stuck with me. Mainly, the fact that they would wear the same pair of leather pants for weeks on end. Can you imagine the SMELL?!? 🤮 And yet the women were just throwing themselves at these guys.

#thankyouforthemusic #abbainaugust

Bostonmomx2 I‘m currently rereading “the dirt” and while Motley Crue, especially Nikki, will forever be favorites, I‘m definitely reading it with a different mindset now that I‘m so much older than when I was crazy for them in the 80s and 90s. 2. RUSH, followed by the Church, followed by Porcupine Tree... Stop making me pick just one! Lol.

It's easy reading this book to see why I was angry and confused for all those years. I lived my life being told different stories: some true, some lies and I still don't know which is which. Children are born innocent. At birth we are very much like a new hard drive - no viruses, no bad information, no crap that's been downloaded into it yet. It's what we feed into that hard drive, or in my case "head drive" that starts the corruption of the files
