The Blind Side
The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game | Michael Lewis
21 posts | 36 read | 12 to read
In the book behind the Academy Awardwinning film, we first meet Michael Oher as one of thirteen children by a mother addicted to crack. He does not know his real name, his birthday, or how to read or write. He takes up football, and school, after a rich, white, evangelical family plucks him from the streets. Then two great forces change him: the familys love and the evolution of professional football itself into a game in which the quarterback must be protected at any cost. Oher becomes the priceless package of size, speed, and agility necessary to guard the quarterbacks greatest vulnerability: his blind side.

I‘m not into sports that much, but this was a great book and movie about a homeless, black teen in Memphis TN taken in by a couple transforming everyone‘s life. He went on to play football at Ole Miss in Mississippi and then to play with the Baltimore Ravens. It‘s a very heartwarming and awesome true account of Michael Oher‘s life.

Elizabeth2 As a proud Ravens fan, I love Michael Oher! I‘ve never read the book, but we watched the movie. Such an inspiration. 💜🖤 4y

According to Goodreads, I read this #football book back in 2009. Ten years later and I still remember how much I enjoyed it! 4/5⭐️ i enjoyed the movie too, but as is often the case, the book was better. #fallisbooked

The story was good. Honestly though, it jumped around a lot and there was far too much football knowledge and facts for me! 🤷‍♀️

I loved the movie. Never realized it was based on a book. So when I found this in a used bookstore I had to pick it up. There's a lot in there that was in the movie, yes, but there is also a lot more. Mostly about football itself and how the game has evolved over time. 4 stars, even though I am not a football fan.

Finished two books after I got home from work, and now I'm watching a movie based on another one. I love Friday nights.

I worked at a luncheon today and was able to listen to Michael Lewis speak. Did you know he has an art history degree from Princeton? And he is married to Tabitha Soren (from MTV News!!)?!?
It was nice to hear some praise of a liberal arts education. #authortalks

Tonight is camping in the backyard night for my husband and kids. This leaves me with the house, bed and TV to myself. Starting with one of my favourite movies, then off to bed to finish my bookclub read.

I found the book much more interesting than the movie because it actually discussed the intricacies of the game of football. I now watch football a little bit differently.

My partner always enjoy Michael Lewis books and there's nothing like a slightly cheesy Sandra bullock movie for a family movie night. #somethingforsept #septphotochallenge

EnidBiteEm I liked this movie. There was enough that transcended the cheese 😀 8y

#FunFridayPhoto. You would think as much as I love baseball, a baseball book would be my choice for Fun Friday. But no. When I think of a memorable sports read, The Blind Side is what comes to mind. One of my book club members chose it several years ago (before the movie came out) & we all kind of groaned & rolled our eyes, but it really ended up being a great read. (And better than the movie, of course!)

Joanne1 I haven't read the book but loved the movie. It was the first movie I saw after having my first baby and when I realised it was about American football I was horrified - wasting a precious trip out with a baby and all that. Turned out to be terrific! I should check out the book. 8y
