Skew! I'm not from quite as deep in the hollers as these boys, but Texas still makes rednecks and I still identify with a lot of what's in this sucker. Hysterical and heartfelt by turns, and fabulous as an audiobook because they read it themselves, this is one I'll definitely return to... and give as a Christmas gift to the other liberal rednecks on my list!

pickLearned a lot about the south. This books made me think about about preconceived notions. Very informative and thought provoking. It hits.
pickFunny, but often deep at the same time. It served as a nice reminder that I sometimes, (most of the time), take myself and life too seriously and need to lighten up a bit, (or a lot sometimes). It is not always easy to be a liberal in deep red conservative, bible belt domain. It's always good to know there are more of us than I realize. TLRM hits.
so-soBetween pick and so-so. Started out ok and there are lots of great lines, but by the end it started to feel repetitive (which, by the way, does not "hit".) I ended up skimming a lot toward the end. I found the use of slang annoying (skew, hits), which I'm sure makes me an old curmudgeon.

pickI started out on audio, then switched to ebook so I could post some quotes. 3 Southern Comedians take on everything the South is rightly & incorrectly known for with some straight talk and a healthy dose of humor. From slavery & the Civil War, fried foods to great music, sexism, racism, the 2nd Amendment, and the drug epidemic that has decimated the region. They shy away from nothing, call foul when they see it, and crack some jokes along the way.
I agree... but that is truly shameful of our entire country, not just the south.

Sorry, serious subject.... but that line made me LOL! I may leave up north, but I've got some of those relatives.

Driving with this group of comedies today as they make tons of wonderful and valid points. In our current political environment, this book probably should have gotten more press, it's not all Hillbilly Elegy after all.
Sometimes the best way to get real is using humor. Humor is how I cope these days!

#TBRTuesday. What I'm reading now & what I have already checked out from the library. Apparently I was in a mood when I went to the library yesterday....hopefully I'll stay in it long enough to read all of these before that mood shifts again.
I had two Syrian refugee books checked out that I just returned unread. I WILL read them later... I just couldn't read them right now while watching the latest news and everyone really doing nothing. 😢
When I moved to Illinois I was shocked that you can buy alcohol on Sunday, buy hard stuff at Kroger, and a bar can be next to a church (visit Naplate Illinois if you have any doubts on this) or it can be next to a school (visit Ottawa IL for this example). Then you
can buy alcohol on Election Day? Seriously? Illinois is a strange place

YES! I love Chick Fill-A. I grew up in Atlanta so it's a given. This liberal who won't shop at Hobby Lobby ate Chick-Fil-a last summer when I went home to Atlanta and then proceeded to have a conversation with my sister about why it was okay for us to be eating there.
I nearly squealed for joy when I got the email that this was in. I know what I am reading tonight!

Here are my November reads. My December goal is to read more print books. we'll see how that goes.
pickAt every turn of the page I found myself nodding my head and saying "well, obviously" and "yes!" A great explanation of liberals in the south where even if you can manage to avoid touchy topics with the people around you so many traditions go against your beliefs. A perfect wake up call for all those people still holding on to ideals that no longer make sense in our growing world.
Sold books for these guys tonight. I needed some good laughs and they provided plenty. Nice guys too.
