15 posts | 27 read | 4 to read
A part of DC Rebirth! Barbara Gordon looks to add a new bullet point to her already impressive BATGIRL resume: travel agent. Having just (barely!) survived the Battle of Burnside and verging on an Arkham-worthy breakdown, the star pulls a Kerouac and gets on the road to find herself. Follow Babs on her worldwide quest in BATGIRL VOL. 1, with New York Times best-selling author Hope Larson and award-winning artist Raphael Albuquerque leading the way! Collects BATGIRL #1-6. Rebirth honors the richest history in comics, while continuing to look towards the future. These are the most innovative and modern stories featuring the world's greatest superheroes, told by some of the finest storytellers in the business. Honoring the past, protecting our present, and looking towards the future. This is the next chapter in the ongoing saga of the DC Universe. The legacy continues.

Decent, but a little too "CW" for my taste. Great art, mediocre story. Missing Gail Simone.

This was so fun! The first Batgirl comic run that I‘ve actually enjoyed. Hopefully my library has the next one. 🤞🏻

Great graphic novel- finished it in 1 day! I haven‘t read any Batgirl for ages and this was the perfect one to start with after such a long time. Definitely recommend to Batgirl fans and new readers. 🦇

I chose this for my #readharder2017 superhero comic with a female lead. I don't usually read cape comics, but this was fun. This variant cover is great

queerbookreader Wasn't the issue with Ivy great?? AND this variant is neat 7y
ohyeahthatgirl @thequeerspiderwoman That was my favorite part! 7y

Are you a savoury or sweet breakfast kind of person? What's your typical breakfast? I'm definitely a savoury sort. I like my buttered toasts, here I've got some coppa as well. Sometimes I have grilled cheese, or even ham sandwiches. I do occasionally eat pancakes or waffles but not as often. And always always tea. Then later coffee.

monkeygirlsmama I don't eat breakfast much, but more savory when I do. 7y
julesG I'm a cheese person. Cheese can turn my breakfast either way. I love Cheddar on dark bread or a mild Gouda on light bread with some chutney or jam. (But I'm also partial to a sweet breakfast on Sunday, with fresh rolls, honey and Nutella.) 7y
HardcoverHearts I have become a smoothie and French press coffee gal. I used to love a big savory breakfast but now I prefer something filling and healthy but not so heavy. But it remains my favorite meal of the day. 7y

WarpedSweetness When I do eat breakfast I am both. It depends on my mood. Lol 7y
Foragingfantasy Savory. All the way. 7y
rubyslippersreads I like both; depends on my mood. Oops, I see @WarpedSweetness beat me to this answer. 😄 (edited) 7y
BookishBelle Savory most of the time. Sweet on some occasions. Though I like both, I definitely need a good amount of protein either way. 7y
booksandsympathy Sometimes I just have a smoothie, but when I really want to do breakfast, I usually have hash browns and sausage with fruit. There's also a brand of frozen potato pancakes I like(the zucchini are my favorite). 7y
Chachic I love both kinds of breakfast! It mostly depends on my mood. But always yes to coffee or tea.☕☕ 7y
Soubhiville I love both! Weekdays I usually just do fruit or toast or yogurt. Weekends I'm all about an omelet or some French toast! 7y
TheCanuckReader Mostly savoury. Omelet, toast, tea.... but then some sweet yogurt! 7y
Jeg Like you I prefer savoury. Always tea with coffee much later in the morning. 7y
ValerieAndBooks I prefer granola or oatmeal for breakfast (sweet), but on weekends when I get to wake up later and the hour is more towards brunch, then I like savory 😊. Savory at 6:30AM would just make me feel 🤢. 7y
kspenmoll Make me savory!!!! 7y
JaclynW I like both. And always tea!! 🍞🥐🍓🍑🥑🥞🥓🍳🍵 7y

I was in love with the art the whole trade, wow. Beautiful art. And the last issue with that Poison Ivy feature was tbh adorable?? Cool story overall, and it seems like they won't drag it out longer than necessary. Excited to see where vol. 2 goes.

I still need to get myself together and write a full review of this one, but there are a few characters in it that are #insaneinthebrain #90sInJuly

Cinfhen Fun choice😍 7y
readinginthedark @Cinfhen Thanks! 😊I'm trying not to do the same books all the time. 7y

Hm, reviews of this one are pretty mixed, but I like Batgirl and I like Hope Larson, so let's give it a go.

readinginthedark I enjoyed it! But I've never read any Batgirl before this, so I didn't go in with any expectations. 8y

Very many see feelings on this one. It is fairly uneven in its storytelling, and there is something I deeply dislike about the first arc in these stories - a combination of judgment of Asian culture and a deeply silly 'solution' to the first villain - but Hope Lawson's dialogue is solid and Rafael Albuquerque remains one of DC's best artists, particularly for action-driven books like this. Comes close to working, but it isn't quite there yet.

I'm actually on the fence about this book, but since I enjoyed it, I'm giving it a thumbs up. It's a good read if you're a fan of #BatgirlOfBurnside ...but not so good if this is your first encounter with the new Batgirl.
Pros: The story is literally a mini jaunt across Asia, so you can bring this along in your #Asia adventure. :) Lots of action too!
Cons: Several gaps in the storyline...you need to be familiar with BG Burnside story arc.

This is okay. I'd only recommend this comic of you're a fan of Batgirl. The series does get a little better after this initial story arc, but not that much. I'm still waiting for it to really wow me. 🦇🦇🦇/5

Same! 😵
Friends here in Seattle are appalled at my complete avoidance of any and all seafood. But when you grow up in a place where no seafood is ever fresh (Illinois) you'll always taste that gross sea-funk on anything from the water.
Side note: I wasn't sure how I'd feel about this new team writing my Batgirl but Hope Larson always kills it & so far it's still the case!

ReadingOver50 I can't imagine life without seafood 8y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag I've never tried seafood! (Mostly because my Mum's seafood cooking skills only extended as far as the occasional flake from the fish and chip shop - & now I'm a vegetarian) 8y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag (Those two things are not connected. It was Shepherds Pie and an excessive amount of BBQs that tipped me towards vegetarianism) 8y

[DELETED] 1409720085 I'm from Idaho, no seafood for me. 😝 Yuck. 8y
Lauren_reading I'd never get seafood when I lived in Chicago. Then I lived on the east coast, fell in love with it - and moved to Vegas - where I thought it would be gross, but it's good here in the desert 🌵 🐟 8y
readinginthedark I'm from Missouri, so it took me a while to like seafood. You just have to be really discerning and basically only eat the fresher, expensive stuff. So...rarely. But the freshwater fish here are amazing! 8y
