It had a great storyline that kept moving from past(WWII) to present . The characters were so well thought out that I got lost in the story.
A beautiful read that me tearing up as I read this book.

so-soAfter I finished this book, I checked Goodreads to find it has a pretty high rating (I got this in a PageHabit box & wanted to go into a story with no foreknowledge for a change). But it didn't work for me. The light treatment of dark subjects felt false, and the dual timeline felt scattered at the end. It started out well, but turned out very unsatisfying for me.
I have three books on the go currently and have ended up setting myself into a specific reading schedule. Word by Word is my reading for downtime and breaks at work. You Don't Have to Say You Love Me is my lunchtime read. The Trick is what I read once I get home.
Does anyone else find themselves concocting elaborate reading schedules?
I received my Sept Literary Fiction #PageHabit box & I enjoy almost everything about it! This is the 2nd book in translation they‘ve featured which I appreciate. However, I‘d really like to see authors of color added to the line up.
There‘s a short story again so that‘s great! I‘m confused about the random rubber animal. A drink coaster? Seems more YA than Lit-Fic. But I adore the other 2 items. Overall, I‘m pleased & excited for the next box.
pickI usually limit my World War II novels to one or two a year, and this one did not disappoint. It perfectly balanced the dark with light. Also a great book to transition from light summer reading to fall and cozy plaid flannel 😉🍂 Thank you to Atria books for an advance copy in exchange for my honest review!

pickEin sehr spannender Roman der, zu einem Teil im heutigen Amerika spielt und in Prag zur Zeit des Nationalsozialismus.
Ein einfühlsamer Roman über die wichtigen Dinge des Lebens- so spannend wie ein Krimi.
