"A fresh new voice." --Susan Elizabeth Phillips, New York Times bestselling authorRia Parkar is Bollywood's favorite Ice Princess--beautiful, poised, and scandal-proof--until one impulsive act threatens to expose her destructive past. Traveling home to Chicago for her cousin's wedding offers a chance to diffuse the coming media storm and find solace in family, food, and outsized celebrations that are like one of her vibrant movies come to life. But it also means confronting Vikram Jathar. Ria and Vikram spent childhood summers together, a world away from Ria's exclusive boarding school in Mumbai. Their friendship grew seamlessly into love--until Ria made a shattering decision. As far as Vikram is concerned, Ria sold her soul for stardom and it's taken him years to rebuild his life. But beneath his pent-up anger, their bond remains unchanged. And now, among those who know her best, Ria may find the courage to face the secrets she's been guarding for everyone else's benefit--and a chance to stop acting and start living. Rich with details of modern Indian-American life, here is a warm, sexy, and witty story of love, family, and the difficult choices that arise in the name of both.

I liked this one a lot, but I was dissatisfied with the ending. I feel as if one person deserved a comeuppance she didn‘t get. And the story was lacking because of it.

I'm so sorry, #romantsy...i wanted to like this book. But. It's the 21st century and we're still writing Murderous Madwoman In The Attic books?

NO. That's not how postpartum psychosis works, that's not how psychosis works, and just STOP.

It's also a dud romance. The only obstacle was "I'm keeping a secret", and the Secret could have been dealt with astonishingly easily. And it was overwritten and overwrought.

Pros: Aunties and wedding stuff.

Lauredhel Unfortunately, this echoes the first-book issues with getting joint sprains and their treatment completely wrong. If a book is going to have medical stuff as a key plot point, I think a good med-picking is warranted. (Hmm, possible editrix opportunity for me?) 7y
rockpools Oh dear! I enjoyed your review, though. 7y

This was a letdown compared to Dev‘s first book, which I really enjoyed. A lot of the drama was manufactured and left me scratching my head. I got a little sick of being in Ria‘s head the whole time and wouldn‘t have minded Vikram‘s POV. #romantsy

Also, today is my last full day in paradise 😩

#🍾 makes me think of weddings, and this was the only recent read I could think of that revolves around a wedding! I love a good wedding, and I thought this novel was greatly entertaining. Picture apropos of nothing as far as the book goes, but I saw it on the internet and it seemed somehow appropriate lol #emojinov @RealLifeReading

Picked this up from a shelf of #romantsy titles at Book Culture curated by @EloisaJames. I enjoyed it - it was nothing like what I'd expected, but it's definitely good!

For some reason (maybe because of the word Bollywood in the title), I was expecting light and fluffy. Instead, I got a sensitive story that centers around mental illness and family. And a hot hero (which was expected 😁) and a Jane Eyre-type attic reveal.

RanaElizabeth I loved this book so much! 7y
ScientistSam @RanaElizabeth have you read her other book? 7y
RanaElizabeth @ScientistSam I did! Not quite as good but still enjoyable. 7y

I don't normally read romance, so this was a nice change of pace! The character development left something to be desired, but otherwise no complaints. I'd totally read more of her books. I give it 3.5 stars! ⭐️

ScientistSam Glad you enjoyed it - it's on my tbr and I keep meaning to start it but then library holds come in... 8y

This is my first book of this author and I loved it! Ria and Viky's romance is so good. I loved everything about it. Vicky never backs down and that's what makes their connection so perfect. He knows what she wants and he is just not willing to let her go. 😍😍

This book, y'all... I read it a couple of weeks ago and it's still sticking with me. Vikram and Ria are childhood friends who became more and then broke up because of some unique situations. The break up was bad and they haven't seen each other in years, but when Ria's cousin, Nikhil, calls her home for his wedding, they get to reconnect. It's fascinating and incredible. I cannot recommend highly enough! #romantsy #OwnVoices

🌟🌟1/2⭐⭐
This felt a bit like a very melodramatic soap opera to read. Too melodramatic for my taste. What I did enjoy was the insight into Indian culture - I would have loved more!
I'm not a fan of books revolving around a central problem that can be resolved or at least mitigated by a simple conversation. All this drama in want of a good talk!
Loved the cover!!
Not really my kind of romance, but I liked trying something new. #romansty #osrbc

As far as contemporary romance goes, it was good. As typical of the genre I found it predictable. The characters were well drawn and not as flat as some. The narrator of the audible version was easy to listen to and did a good job differentiating the characters.

Took a break from reading to decorate the tree, but I did manage to finish this one. I enjoyed it, and the sex scenes were hot, but I spent a lot of the book wishing I could knock the main characters' heads together. In honor of this love story, here is a picture of our tree, mostly decorated with the 22 Hallmark ornaments we have bought (one each year we have been together).

It's never a good idea to start reading a book, that you know is going to be fantastic, just one hour before your usual bedtime. I'll get only three hours of sleep before I have to get up for work, but staying up to finish reading The Bollywood Bride was totally worth it.
Heartbreaking, angsty, beautifully written - Sonali Dev knows how to spin a tale! Highly recommended.

All the feels! 💖💕 Loving the complex character that is Ria.
This book feels just like a Bollywood movie! I wonder who, from Bollywood, the author Sonali Dev would cast as lead characters. I think Deepika Padukone would portray Ria really well. As for Vikram, I'm not sure yet - at this stage I don't know much about him.
Also, why have I waited so long to read this?! I remember reading A Bollywood Affair (Sonali's first book) and loving it!

Another wonderful read by Sonali Dev. This story is one of first loves reunited and uncovering the secrets that kept them apart. The narrator of the audiobook is fantastic and gives each character their own distinct voice, just as she did in A Bollywood Affair. Definitely check this book out.

Took advantage of my Indian outfit yesterday to take this book shot. I only have this one outfit and I've worn it two years in a row on the Friday before Diwali. I enjoyed Bollywood Affair so I bought the Bollywood Bride when it went on sale. Happy Diwali to those who celebrate it!🎆 #romantsy #LitsyFeature #WeNeedDiverseBooks

EloisaJames That's a gorgeous dress! And I loved the Bollywood Bride. Even though it made me so hungry! 8y
Chachic @EloisaJames Thank you! 😊 I believe it's called a kurta, basically a long top with slits on the side so I had to wear leggings underneath. I could recognize most of the Indian food described in the earlier Sonali Dev book that I read, but I can't eat a lot of Indian food because it's too spicy for me.😅 8y
JoannaShupe I love all of Sonali's books. She's so talented. Love the kurta! 8y

My reading challenge game has been strong this year. The first book I read in 2016 was THE BOLLYWOOD BRIDE, which is great, by the way.

CocoReads Mine looks bad but I know I've read more than what mine shows. I don't put everything on Goodreads because I read a lot of trash and my niece is my goodreads friend. 8y

So let me start with this : I am not a fan of romance. I have read other books in the gender and so far none of them really give me the desired to read that type of literature. I got this book as part of the #bookriot box for best books 2015. That been said, I did like the way the story is narrated is easy to read and I enjoy a big part of it. The problem former was the last 100 pages and the fact that I still do not like romantic books.

A very tense second-chance romance but with a sweet resolution. I loved all the wedding details (spoiler: the wedding is not for the protagonist) and the food and the tiny detail that the aunties coordinate their clothes was too adorable.

ramyasbookshelf I have this in my TBR pile.. It's been getting more positive review than I expected. 9y
KarenaFagan I loved it! And that it wasn't afraid of having dark moments for the characters. 9y
balletbookworm @KarenaFagan my only concern is what is Vikram going to do when he finds out about his mom? I'm sure he knows that she doesn't like Ria but he's go nuts if he finds out what was actually said (as if he's a real person, lol) 9y
