Magdalena has an unsettling gift. She sees writing on the body of everyone she meets--names, dates, details both banal and profound--and her only relief from the onslaught of information is to take off her glasses and let the world recede. Mercifully, her own skin is blank. When she meets Neil, she is intrigued to see her name on his cheek. He's in Paris for the summer, studying a medieval pilgrimage to the rocky coast of Spain, where the body of Saint Jacques was said to have washed ashore, covered in scallop shells. Desperate to make things right after her best friend dies--a loss she might have prevented--Magdalena embarks on her own pilgrimage, but not before Neil falls for her, captivated by her pale eyes, charming Eastern European accent, and aura of heartbreak. Neil's father, Richard, is also in Paris, searching for the truth about his late mother, a famous expatriate American novelist who abandoned him at birth. All his life Richard has clung to a single striking memory--his mother's red shoes, which her biographers agree he never could have seen. Despite misunderstandings and miscommunications, these unforgettable characters converge, by chance or perhaps by fate, and Magdalena's uncanny ability may prove to be the key to their happiness. Indelible pulses with humanity and breathes life into unexpected fragments of history, illustrating our urgent need to connect with others, and the past.

It took me awhile to get into this book, but I ended up falling in love with this strange tale of a Lithuanian woman who can read words on people‘s skin, and the America father and son who have a connection to her and her mother. #AnyWayYouReadathon @kimmypete1 @Eggbeater

Menotte You hooked me. I'm looking forward to reading it. 3y

Country 11: I explored street art in Vilnius, Lithuania!
This was the only Lithuania book my library had😣-a Lithuanian woman can see invisible words on others' skin. In Paris, she sees her name on Neil. When they return to Vilnius you find out what links them. I'm part Polish; it has been enlightening to read Eastern European books and see similarities/differences in customs/attitudes across the region. 3/5

I've been intrigued by Indelible since it released; has anyone read it?

The pattern in the left is from Beasts Made of Night, which I posted on a few months back (releases next month; link in comments below). Taj is a sin-eater indentured to slay the royal family's sin-beasts. Each beast slain appears as a mark on his skin, some of which are alluded to in the intricate cover art.

I don't know if this info about the train stations in France and about the relationship between churches and the location of WWI monuments is true, but it is certainly interesting! (And sounds logical!) #Bloomsbury

This debut novel features multiple narrators and mysteries, along with a dash of the supernatural: Magdalena can literally read the truth about anyone written on their skin. I'm intrigued!

DogMomIrene The audiobook features two narrators. I'm pretty certain the male narrator also performed Holes, so sometimes when he reads Magdalena I hear Madame Zeroni. Most times I'm not sure where the story is going next, but learning about new characters and hearing their interactions is intriguing. 8y
saresmoore Oh, this sounds fascinating! That is not a gift I would want. 8y
Bookishlie Hmmm. More to add to the Tbr.... 8y

Walking home from work in the 85 degree temps, I thought I'd take a few photos to share with other #LitsyPartyOfOne revelers. Great audiobook with two different actors. The female narrator read the introduction and now I've been listening to a man read the part of a son. Eager to see where this story goes. May have to audiocolor a bit later tonight to get back to this book.

Dolly That's such a contrast to my surroundings with 1 1/2' of snow and single digit temps. Wow! Same planet. 8y
DogMomIrene @Dolly I know, right? I'm hoping it cools a bit. I walked my pup once I got home, and he stopped in the shade looking at me like, "Nope. Taking a break." 8y

February is all about preparing for Festivus. I will maintain focus on reading books for TFoB. I will. I solemnly swear...wait. In this instance, that line will probably derail me. #FeistyFeb

Adelia Saunders is another emerging author. Just heard about Indelible today and the idea that the protagonist's gift is seeing writing on the bodies of everyone she meets just blows me away. Cannot wait to hear her speak!

Vanessa DeJesus, Author Events: "I picked up INDELIBLE because of the over, actually. It's haunting, but beautiful, and I think that's an apt description of the novel too. By the end I was left with this sense of awe that really made me realize how small we are in the grand scheme of things." #flatironstories #bookbrag #indelible #adeliasaunders #bloomsbury
