Haven‘t been on Litsy in MONTHS but trying to make the time to start posting on here again and looking forward to seeing everyone else‘s posts too! Hoping to post some reviews for books I‘ve been reading recently very soon. For now, here is a picture of our river earlier this evening - it has been raining nonstop and this is wayyyyy higher than it normally is! Luckily the rain has stopped for now and the water levels are starting to drop again. 😬

Today has been an amazing day for books for me! My #botm came in and my order of 3 very anticipated reads came in this afternoon too! I‘m so excited about all of these books but I think I‘m gonna start with Ireland‘s book first because I‘ve been reading so many good things about it lately. 😍

Really enjoyed listening to this book. Interesting facts and context for the TV show. There were a few repetitions that I noticed but they didn‘t detract too much from the story. Completed book 2 for #24in48. Not going to make it to the full 24 hours but enjoying all the reading time nonetheless.

Took a long break and am now back at it. Spent a little time updating my #24in48 reading log and now enjoying this audiobook while getting some knitting in. I love learning more about Queen Victoria and the accuracies (and inaccuracies) of the show. 👸🏻

I‘ve found a term for what I‘m doing: #audioindigenizing - when you‘re listening to an audiobook and being a badass Indigenous person. 😆 I have a feeling a significant amount of #24in48 will be spent audiobooking and devoting time to a couple of current projects, including this one. We‘re working on a traditional dress for my niece for our tribe‘s summer ceremonies and it requires hundreds of pieces of beargrass. Thus my loom full of beargrass.

Karkar You will have to post the finished dress. I am curious to see how it turns out! 7y

Just under 3 hours completed so far for #24in48! I could not put this one down! A very realistic dystopian tale of a young women struggling to keep herself and her baby safe in a society where conception is threatened and women become prisoners in a religious state‘s attempt to control reproduction.

Cinfhen This has such mixed reviews but now I'm curious....I think I saw this available through my library #OverDrive & congrats on finishing your first book🎊 7y
Hooked_on_books I just finished this one, too, and I loved it! It seems to be very polarizing. 7y

The Power | Naomi Alderman
post image
Pickpick

The Power is a powerful, speculative fiction novel that is as disturbing as it is illuminating. Although I enjoyed certain parts (such as the revenge that many women were able to get on the men that abused them when the power is first discovered), Alderman's story shows us that power corrupts, no matter who holds it. Often bleak and violent with unsympathetic characters, The Power explores power and gender in a way that is impossible to ignore.

FireHeartRattlerOfStars I just ordered this for my Book of the Month Box and I can't wait to get it! 7y
TrishB Great review. It made me sad because we just became the same. 7y
Yamich49 @FireHeartRattlerOfStars It's really good! I hope your enjoy it! 7y
Yamich49 @TrishB True, although I think it's more of a brutal look at our current sexist society than an accurate exploration of what would happen if women had that power. So much of the horrible things happening to the men were so eerily familiar to the way that women are treated that I think it was deliberately done that way to showcase how horrific the current state of sexism and power is today. 7y
Bklover @TrishB Me too! 7y

This book is FUCKED UP. Completely disturbing and tragic and hard to read in large chunks. The first half of the book was a challenge for me as it is an epistolary novel and the narrator is a pretty unlikable person. Once I got past the halfway point, it was difficult to put down and the horrible and tragic things just kept piling up. Hard to say I enjoyed it because of the subject matter, but it definitely left an impression and disturbed me.

CouronneDhiver Haha! Yep. 7y
WarpedSweetness It was made into a movie. That's how I felt about the movie too. 7y
TheWordJar Perfect review. I read this book two years ago, and there are still scenes that are vivid in my mind. I haven't watched the movie yet, as I'm not sure I could make it through that story again. 7y
