“She was found on a January day in a field where the junipers grew, wound in a blue blanket with her name carefully stitched along the border with silk thread.”
It‘s #firstlinefriday.
“Some stories begin at the beginning and others begin at the end, but all the best stories begin in a library.”
It‘s the last day of #bannedbookweek2021. This graphic novel has been challenged many times for the following reasons: #pornographic #lgbtq #druguse #sexualviolence #sexualsituations #readbannedbooks kids! #freedomtoread #bannedbooks #bannedbooksweek
I‘m combining #firstlinefriday & #bannedbooks2021 today. First line: He‘d stopped trying to bring her back. Reasons book is challenged: #offensivelanguage #vileprofanity #coarselanguage #sexuality #readbannedbooks kids!
It‘s another #bannedbook. It was pulled from a high schools shelves in 2013. Reasons? #didntfindliteraryvalue #toomuchforteenagers #language #lossofinnocence #rapeandincest #nationalnookaward1953 #booksthatshapedamerica #readbannedbooks
#bannedbooksweek2021 continues! This book has been challenged due to #violence #sexualcontent #obscenelanguage. #readbannedbooks kids!

“I considered starting with these words: I no longer want to kill you—because I really don‘t—but then decided you would think this far too melodramatic.” #Firstlinefridays

Look in the terrible mirror of the sky
And not in this dead glass, which can reflect
Only the surfaces—the bending arm,
The leaning shoulder and the searching eye.
From Blanche McCarthy by Wallace Stevens.

I DNF‘d this one at 14%.
After all the BS happening this past week in Texas, reading how a female character is a shitty human because she wanted an abortion just rubs me the wrong way. There are a million ways to show or tell us (this author loves to tell rather than show) someone is rotten, but this is the way you decide to go? 🤬 #romance #romantsy
So, I bailed & the author is going on my do not bother reading list. 🤷🏼♀️
“If menopause were on Yelp it would have one star.”

The impoverished always try to keep moving, as if relocating might help. They ignore the reality that a new version of the same old problem will be waiting at the end of the trip— the relative you cringe to kiss.

Blood ran down Dougan Mackenzie‘s forearms as he crouched against the ancient stone wall separating the grounds of Applecross Orphanage from the wild mountains beyond.
This book is bananas. 🍌🍌🍌

What a fun read. It‘s like Mary Poppins shows up in Regency England and saves this family from all their bad decisions and gives them all what they really want at the end. HEAs for all!
*Now, their is antisemitism (think Fagin and Shylock) that knocked me out of the story. So be prepared for that. Due to this nonsense, I gave this book 3.5 stars rather than 4.5.
TJR is hit or miss for me, but this is a definite hit. It‘s a fab beach read. I mean, how can it not be? TJR tells us from the jump that there is gonna be a fire. And I think she does a great job of ratcheting up that tension. Nina‘s story arc is good & I like how it pays off. The big ‘80s teen movie party is….fine. But there is one thing that Bothers me enough that I must rant about it. It‘s a spoiler, so I‘ll stick it in the comments.
What I‘m reading this morning…#SpringandFall #coffee
Today in sh*t that makes me feel old: this book is categorized as historical fiction and takes place in the year 1983.
What I‘m reading today for my virtual book club.
It‘s an interesting story but I‘m not sure he hits that ending. It‘s a bit 🧀 #horror #witches #StephenKingvibes
This book is like eating a jar of marshmallow fluff. The first two spoonfuls are yummy. But by the bottom of the jar you are unsatisfied and full of regrets. 🤷🏼♀️ #ymmv
I‘m trying to finish this so I can start the #20booksofSummer21 challenge tomorrow. #horror #ghoststory #mttbr
This book is another that surprised me. Very interesting examination of divorce laws and one woman‘s experience of it. If you are a fan of #nonfiction reads, you may want to give it a read.

I received this book in a #GoodReadsgiveaway.
This book is so depressing. I bailed about 100 pages into it and haven‘t looked back. I think a lot of people really like this book, so YMMV. 🤷🏼♀️

This book is not a feel good kind of book. It‘s informative, helpful, and a book a everyone with elderly parents needs to to read.

Another Harry Potter collection of stories. Except this time the books are by J.K. Rowling. The books are a mixed bag. I like some more than others. Fantastic Beasts & Beedle the Bard are great fun to read. But Quidditch Through the Ages was a boring and confusing. I really think Rowling had a difficult time figuring out quidditch and how it works in the books and it shows in Quidditch Through the Ages.
Like all collections of essays, it‘s a mixed bag. Some essays are great and others are….not. For me this was like reading 200 level college philosophy course textbook. So I gave it only 2 Stars on GoodReads.

I really like this cookbook. It‘s readable and lovely and full of good information that has improved my cooking. I give it 5 Stars. Samin Nosrat‘s voice is so strong and fun to read. It really is like watching the Netflix series based on this cookbook. And the illustrations are just fantastic. So it totally makes sense to me that this book is highly rated on GoodReads. I‘m looking forward to re-reading and trying the recipes in the coming months.
I love the title of this book, the cover of this book, and the way they get to the HEA in this book. ❤️ #reread #romance #coverlove #romantsy
It‘s probably me, not the author. Lots of people love her books. I just can‘t read romance novels with heroes in the military because writers get it wrong almost every time. And I keep trying to read them and am disappointed every time. So. 🤷♀️
