Sunday reads--halfway through, and so far I enjoyed Red Rising more, but who knows what plot twists await? I'll probably burn through the rest of this quickly 😉🔥
if you really believe fate works like that. as if it lives in the sky and spends its time placing us like pieces of chess. as if it is not the choices we make. who taught you that. tell me. who convinced you. you've been given a heart and a mind that isn't yours to use. that your actions do not define what will become of you. I want to scream and shout it's us you fool. we're the only ones that can bring us back together.
So far, this book is worth it just for those paragraphs that stick, the ones that you can chew on during the day until you're back to reading it again. Not every chapter is a winner, but it's easy enough to skim those chapters.
Overall, I'd give this book 3.5/5 stars. It was too long and at times slow, but past the halfway mark, it picks up a bit. The romance also wasn't my favorite (mostly because immortal/mortal relations always strike me as a little weird), but I really enjoyed Manon's arc in the book and I'd like to see what happens to her in future books.
Smoky sunrise from the Santa Clarita Fire, fits the mood while I continue reading QoS. The characters are a bit dramatic for my taste, but I'm enjoying Manon's chapters.
Currently killing it with my reading goals this year--audiobooks help a lot! Just finished Mindy's audiobook, and I have to say that while it was a good listen, I definitely liked her first book better.
I used to read and reread this when I was young. Reading it now is like a warm hug for my brain--it feels good to revisit such a unique little book 😋 highly recommend for the romance and empowering heroine ☀️🕌
Listening to the audiobook--not my favorite narrator, but so far the book is an entertaining, immersive experience--a well developed universe with interesting characters. It's perfect listening for busy work. Excited to see where it goes. 🚀💫
Not so much a good read as an interesting skim--chances are most of this information won't be new to the moderately health conscious, but the book has a positive message and its well designed. The Ayurvedic information is also interesting to read about 🌻
Almost done--so good! I'm going to savor this last bit on my commute home. TGIF indeed, this is the perfect way to kick off the weekend 🌟
A damned good book ? one of the best I've read this year. Suggested song pairing while you cheer the demon on: "Broken Bones" by Kaleo ??
Really enjoying this one, but is it any surprise with a Joe Hill book? 😈🌟Perfect vacation reading in between outings!
Bought this one at Powell's, I'm excited to read it!
It's a good day to read by the pool. Just started this book, sounds like a fascinating read about cancer 😎
Court intrigue set in a unique goblin/fae world, this was a well written book. Maia grows a lot as a character and it was easy to cheer him on as he took on the challenge of becoming emperor. That said, the names were a but confusing at times. Still a good read!
Starting to read this monster of a book--not sure why it's so long, but I'll find out 📕👀
I devoured this book in 2 days--fast paced and twisty in a unique world, this book was addicting. Now I'm excited to read the rest of the trilogy. Suggested song pairing: "Kings" by Tribe Society ???
It's hard to describe what it's like listening to this book. It's funny, but I find myself wondering if it's ok to laugh about traveling to North Korea, considering the hardships of the people living there. In this way, I guess I find it funny yet disturbing at the same time.
I loved the movie, now I love the book even more--I can say without a doubt the book is better. I'm going to miss this book on my commute. I laughed, I cried, and I loved every minute of it! 🌟🌟🌟
"Soon as we step in the church foyer, one a the Brown brothers slip behind us and he lock the door. I'm about to ask why, would a got scared if I had the time, but then the thirty-odd peoples in the room start clapping. Mining and me start clapping with 'em. Figure somebody got into college..." ??
With this cover and subject, this book is going straight on my TBR list. Truth is stranger than fiction indeed! 🐠
"A good scientist is known by his ability to select." Clever Dorthe, I'd like to have a t-shirt with this line.
A detailed look at H. H. Holmes' murders and the Chicago Wold Fair, which sparks the readers imagination, making it easy to envision the White City and the darkness it harbored. In particular, I was amazed at the invention of the Ferris Wheel--it was quite the marvelous invention! 🎟🎪🌟
Currently reading Fables 1--wish I could decorate my room with some of this art 😉
My first foray into superhero comics, Ms. Marvel turned out to be the right choice. Funny, clever, and well written--on the whole, very entertaining! Read it all in one sitting 👏🏼🌟
"Evil is always possible. And goodness is eternally difficult." Started rereading this after I heard rumors there might be a new Lestat film. It just reminds me that every reading of a book is so different, I'm enjoying it more this time around.
"I don't get the anti-slut shaming movement. They're like 'Don't shame the sluts,' and I'm like 'You're the one calling them sluts.' It's like having a 'Lay off the fatties' campaign." A little bit goes a long way with Jenny Lawson--listening to a little bit every day is perfect! ?
This book is the best combination of interesting reflections and humor--what else do you expect from Amy Poehler? 😉
"It takes years as a woman to unlearn what you have been taught to be sorry for. It takes years to find your voice and seize your real estate." Amy Poehler makes reading breaks better ❤️?
"Great books give you a feeling that you miss all day, until you finally get to crawl back inside those pages again." This audiobook is addictive and makes my commute fly by. ??
Wishing I could be at BookCon. I guess I'll distract myself with this fascinating slice of Chicago history.
"It was so easy to disappear, so easy to deny knowledge, so very easy in the smoke and din to mask that something dark had taken root." Such beautiful prose!
This is a great reference book for raising chickens, especially for first timers. Our 4 girls are doing great and growing up fast! 🐥
If you like her blog, you'll love this book! The pictures are gorgeous and the recipes are delicious, which makes this a great cookbook. Mmm, lemon bars 🍋😍👌🏼
Creative format made it stand out--not sure if I would have liked it as much if it was presented in a more traditional format. In any case, it was a fast read with plenty of action 🚀☄
Hell yes, this comic is bad ass in the best way. The series holds so much promise, I'm excited for more. Smart, entertaining and original. Loved it! 👊🏼💥
For anyone who needs short chapters of creative motivation, whether you write, paint, craft, etc.--this book will inspire you to be more creative. Plus, it's a beautiful addition to your bookshelf!
This book will make you ugly cry, but in a good way if that makes sense. Not sure if the movie will do it justice, but this book is an ace from Jojo Moyes ❤️😭
I listened to the audiobook, it was a good book for my commute but I didn't like the characters. I definitely wanted to know how the story ended, but after I finished it, I mostly felt glad to be done with. Perhaps I'll like the movie more?
Not my favorite read, but it was an interesting concept and I finished it, so that's something. It's not very plot heavy, more internal thoughts and coming of age focused
