I‘m 80% through this one and love it. Two lifelong friends go on a camping trip in rural Maine when the state secedes. Beautiful nature writing and lots of intrigue. Loving it. Owes a debt to McCarthys “the road” but not bleak in the same way.

pdxannie Ooo I want an update when you finish it! Adding to my TBR list 2mo
birdie_gw @pdxannie a beautiful book!! Five stars. I wish it was longer and we knew more of what happened after the ending. 2mo

I listened to the audiobook and am so deeply impacted by the stories she shares. Told with empathy and well researched. Essential reading to understand the wild ride of the past few years.

pdxannie Oooo this popped up on a booklist recently and sounded intriguing. Adding it to my list officially. 3mo

This book has been widely read and recommended on booktok etc but it was not my fave. Felt like a slog sometimes. I also don‘t love when books contain excerpts from a book that the protagonist is writing - it irks me the same as when authors use dream sequences to propel the narrative forward or to inject some symbolism or push a theme. That‘s just my thing.

pdxannie I hate dream sequences. So bored. 3mo

Really touching. Weaves in and out of past and present - narrated by a ghost. 4/5 or 4.5/5

pdxannie I like this book more now than when I had just finished it. It was beautifully written and very touching. 4mo
birdie_gw Yes agree! I think I will need to sit with it to appreciate it fully 4mo

Loving this so far. Keep rereading passages because the writing is beautiful. Had to use a b/w filter for the photo because my office is aggressively beige. Ick.

4/5⭐️ - a cozy and quick palate cleanse after reading “Out”. A book for book lovers and a love letter to bookstores. Made me long for all the magical hole in the wall used bookstores I‘ve visited.

So far a very intriguing and well written thriller. Characters are all dynamic and well developed. A long one! 18% in so far.

pdxannie Oooo keep me posted on this 4mo
birdie_gw @pdxannie loved this one. Gritty but so well done! Some parts are not for the squeamish. Would be a good winter read - bleak! The characters are so real. 4mo

The photo is book 2 but the review is of book 1. I read it so fast and jumped right into book 2! A fun one that made me miss SF. I‘ve been bad about using this app because I read ebooks and don‘t have cute photos to share!

A slow one. Jury‘s out still - am only on p88. Not sure where it‘s going and could be very good or blah. I love speculative fiction and was hoping for a winner but having trouble getting hooked so far!

I admit, 40% of my attraction to this book was the cover. Glad I checked it out - can‘t put it down!

Starting this and I think @pdxannie you might like it! Have heard good things. Didn‘t particularly like the author‘s other book “Saha” but giving this a go.

pdxannie I‘ll add it to my list! Thanks!!! 6mo

Finally got into this one - it does start slow - but once it gets going it‘s SO GOOD. Like reading the most intense ancient gossip but with beautiful prose. Love it.

Enjoying this one! I‘ve been into office-based fiction. Bonus if the narrator is unlikeable, as with this one. V entertaining and a quick read.

So far enjoying this one, which I chose in part because of the cover if I‘m being honest. I got a page turner for my kindle so I can set the text to XL bold and somehow that helps me read faster.

Bought this book for a friend who passed through town today but I couldn‘t see because I was working. A fascinating look at the consciousness of a very odd creature. More alien than most.

Pass. Fell flat for me. Might have been better as a short story. I got tired of the narration - folksy and universal while not really saying much or feeling solid. Plot was confusing in an unfocused way. Idk just not my thing!
