Mary Poppins and Mary Poppins Comes Back | P. L. Travers

Those who know me are often surprised when I tell them I haven't read Mary Poppins, since the story is such a big part of my life. My knowledge comes exclusively from the Disney film, so I decided it was time to give it a go. Unfortunately, as soon as the titular character arrived, I was immediately put off. She keeps sniffing, and she is very stern with the children and their mother. I couldn't keep Julie Andrews's portrayal of her out of my mind

Hamilton: The Revolution | Lin-Manuel Miranda

I was so thrilled to see that the UCF CMC had this book on its shelves! It's an amazing read for anyone who is a fan of this groundbreaking musical. The full libretto has articles peppered in that show how this story was brought to the stage. Simply fantastic!

The Bad Beginning is the first book in A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket, which is a satirical F collection. The Baudelaire children are orphaned and left in the care of their "relative" Count Olaf, who is after their enormous fortune. The Library Card | Jerry Spinelli

"You collecting tickets?" is probably my favorite sentence in this book, the Library Card (RF) by Jerry Spinelli. The Rough-Face Girl by Rafe Matin, illustrated by David Shannon, is a wonderful example of traditional literature. Beautiful images accompany this Algonquin retelling of a Cinderella story. krystag Connecting this type of TL to a story that children already have prior knowledge to makes a really great way for students to compare the two stories! I don't think I've ever heard of this author before! Will have to read some of his books! 8y

Mlegg This is such a great book, I read this when I was younger and I loved it. I think it is a great way to see into the ways of a different culture yet have the familiarity of a known story. Love it!!! 8y

DrSpalding This is a beautiful version of the story. Reading an original Cinderella story and then this one makes for a great compare and contrast lesson. This is a must read during a Native American social studies unit. 8y

CaitlinPVeal What a cool story! I really like this book. On the website it has the authors email. I would give this to my students for a way to communicate with the author. It would make them feel special to talk to an author, and it could aid their literacy skills. 8y

Alisoncavicchi As we have been reading this novel I definitely see a lot of opportunity for extended lessons! Each part of the book addresses a different area and time frame, and I think our class would really enjoy expanding their knowledge on each region. Great resource for the first section! 8y
