The second book of the science fiction Captain Underpants series by Dav Pilkey. In this book, George and Harold are back to their tricks when they accidentally create an army of evil toilets and only one person can stop them. It's a fun book and would be great for 3rd grade and up in my opinion. Check out Dav Pilkeys scholastic page here www.scholastic.com/planetpilkey/ #ucflae3414sp17

CharlotteG I was never the biggest fan of the captain underpants series. However, my brother was a FANATIC. I definitely will have these in my classroom to appeal to the male gender. 8y
HayleeM My brother was obsessed with these books! Great addition to a classroom library to appeal to all readers! 8y
DrSpalding Pilkey has a summer reading contest. Search it up on the Scholastic website. 8y
Mariachen I remember this book being super popular when I was younger! Although I never read it, I remember it bringing so much joy to those around me 8y

My favorite book growing up. This first of many in the science fiction Captain Underpants series by Dav Pilkey introduces you to Harold and George and how they hypnotize their principal into becoming the greatest superhero. There's a movie coming out soon so here's a link to the trailer www.youtube.com/watch?v=cud_exr7svy #ucflae3414sp17

DrSpalding My youngest son Gavin enjoyed these books a great deal. 8y

If you loved the book Wonder, then you will love the realistic fiction stories of 3 of the other characters in the book. You get to know the true Julian, the bully, Charlotte, Auggie's school friend, and Christopher, Auggie's oldest best friend. These stories take place before Auggie attended Beecher Prep and during and gives great insight on these 3 characters. Here's a link to R.J Palacios site http://rjpalacio.com #ucflae3414sp17

DrSpalding I am impressed that you were inspired to read more by Palacio but I can't say I am surprised. #choosekind 8y

The true biography of the famous Cat in the Hat author, Dr. Seuss. Many only know him for the books that he has written but this book gives you a ton of insight of Dr.Seuss outside of his writings. Check out the link to see the "Who Was" series http://www.whowasbookseries.com #ucflae3414sp17

DrSpalding Love these biographies for kids. This one of course would be an excellent read aloud or LC during a Seuss author study too! 8y
katelynn_lawson I think I would thoroughly enjoy reading this little story. He's the best! 8y

One Proud Penny | Randy Siegel
post image
Pickpick

The nonfiction story of a penny and all of its endeavors. This book takes you on a journey about a particular penny born in 1983 in Philadelphia and details everything this penny goes through in its daily life. Randy Siegel did a tremendous job writing this but the illustrations by Serge Bloch were also beautiful. The link is to a pretty interesting site about pennies www.designlife-cycle.com/us-penny/ #UCFLAE3414sp17

DrSpalding What a cool book! Using this book could help you meet Social Studies or Math standards! 8y
CaitlinPVeal This would be a great way to connect math and reading. If you teach a money lesson at the beginning of the day, and read the book at the end of the day then that would be a great way to reinforce the concept. On the website I saw many facts, and an example of a project. This would be a great aid for students to look at if they had to do a project based on this book. 8y
AlanaA Math and social studies concepts would go great with this book. I really like the source you use with this book too so kids can get a little more background info on the penny(: 8y

Love That Dog | Sharon Creech

Pickpick

Love That Dog is a sensational poetry book by Sharon Creech. It's a book as told by Jack through poems from his point of view. Jack is shy and held back a bit but with the help of a dog, his teacher, and his imagination, he is able to find his own voice. I thoroughly enjoyed this book filled with a series of poems & Sharon Creech is an amazing author with a plethora of great books which you can find here www.sharoncreech.com/books #UCFLAE3414sp17

DrSpalding Some compare her writing style to Kwame Alexander, The Crossover. Students need to be exposed to this format. Out of the Dust is written in a similar fashion too! 8y

This traditional literature book is the "true story" of what really happened to the Three Little Pigs, as told through the wolf. This Jon Sciezka book is an amazing folk tale book that makes you realize there are always two sides to a story. Jon Sciezka writes amazing folk tales and if you'd like to see more check out this website http://www.jsworldwide.com/yeah_he_wrote_em.html. #UCFLAE3414sp17

DrSpalding He is a fun author for kids! This variant does not disappoint! Read the real story first before introducing variants! 8y
StacieP I loved this book when I was younger! It really makes you think about how there's always two sides to every story! 8y

Wonder. R.J. Palacio | R J Palacio

Pickpick

The realistic fiction story about a young boy going through middle school, as we all know is tough. However, he does it with a "facial abnormality" as his sister puts it. This book was inspiring, cheerful, sad, every emotion chord is pulled on. You can't help but to care for Auggie Pullman.
check out more R.J Palacio books here http://rjpalacio.com #UCFLAE3414sp17

DrSpalding Nice Jarec! It's always wise to use an author's website as a source. This book is now five years old and has spent five years on the New York Times bestseller's list. 8y
JarecS I just ordered Auggie & Me because this book was so great. Looking forward to reading that as well 8y
