The Last Song | Nicholas Sparks

As you can see, this book is well-worn, and I've dog-earred every page since I've read this book 12 times. It was my favorite book throughout middle and high school, because not only is it a beautiful romance, but tells the story of a daughter coming to love her father and rekindling a relationship together.

PriscillaD I absolutely love this movie and I cannot believe I have yet to read the book! What I do love the most is that is more than just a love story between a guy and a girl! I have to read it 8y
DrSpalding This definitely is not for elementary age students. I am happy you are reading books for pleasure that are appropriate for you as a young adult as well as kids books you need to know about to be an effective teacher. 8y
Mariachen I loved this book!! Although this gained popularity mainly through the movie, it was way underrated as a book itself. Although not for younger kids, it definitely intrigued me as a teen! 8y

This is one of my favorites that I've read a half a dozen times. It never gets old, and tells of adventure in the future and a boy who can talk to cats.

DrSpalding I would like to know more about this book. Resource? 8y

This is 100% a book I would recommend to all upper middle and/or high school teachers for their students. While it deals with the heavy topic of slavery, it talks of fairness, hope, and new beginnings.

DrSpalding Draper is excellent. I agree with your grade level notes. Resource? 8y

Robinson Crusoe | Daniel Defoe

"It happened one day about noon, going towards my boat, I was exceedingly surprised with the print of a mans naked foot on the shore..."
For 24 years Robinson Crusoe thought he was alone on the island he was shipwrecked on, until he stumbled across another person...

DrSpalding You have read many classics Stacie! So glad you put forth the effort to read these titles this semester. Resource? Grade level? Being that this is a children's literature course, this particular story would not be appropriate at the elementary level. 8y

"From that hour we had no further occasion for the exercise of reason, or judgement, or skill, or contrivance. We were henceforth to be hurled along, the playthings of the fierce elements of the deep."
Everyone knows this story of a scientist who travels into our Earth to try and reach the center.

DrSpalding Great choice! I would not say that everyone knows the story. The movie is interesting! Resource? 8y

I love this book! Christine Caine reminds us how to fulfill our God-given destiny by shutting down shame and baggage, and picking up freedom!
"You can grow in freedom and strength - you can be free!"

This is the book I'm reading for a literature circle in another class and it's proved to be quite the page turner! Every chapter leaves you on a cliffhanger that makes you want to keep reading! #UCFLAE3414sp17

DrSpalding I have met Korman twice. He is an interesting author. Do you have a resource to accompany this text? 8y

Pictures of Hollis Woods | Patricia Reilly Giff

This is another book that I've read before, and it's part of the reason the foster care system and adoption is something I'm so passionate about.
This book is so beautifully written and switches between flashback and present day to paint a beautiful story with an even more beautiful ending!
#UCFLAE3414sp17

DrSpalding A truly touching story! Here's the link to the movie version: http://www.hallmarkmoviesandmysteries.com/pictures-of-hollis-woods It was nominated for several awards. 8y

I have read this book several times and I love it more and more every time! I love the dynamic between Melody and Mrs. V! They are so great, and Mrs. V doesn't treat her like she has special needs, she just treats her as if she's a normal kid.
#UCFLAE3414sp17

DrSpalding Mrs. V is amazing! Reading this book as a young adult and preservice teacher provides valuable insight into teaching children with special needs. 8y
JarecS I actually read this book a little bit ago but definitely need to read it again to remember it. I do remember it was a really great book and will be putting it on my order list 8y
RanaH Read this book when I was in school! Amazing!!! Would like to read it again :) 8y
