My 2 year old son has recently become obsessed with Star Wars. He hasn't seen the the movies, he's too young, but he recognizes Darth Vader (whom he calls "Dada" -- insert funny "I am your father" joke here) and Stormtroopers. He is obsessed with the Dark Side. My son asks us to read this book "again" a lot. Cute explanations about the "history" and different types of Stormtroopers, and the illustrations are WONDERFUL!

The story is okay but by the end I got sick of the protagonist's hang-ups about her family and the distance between her and her brother. I understand that people grow apart, even in families, it happened to my brother and I, incidentally my parents passed away prematurely too, though not at the same time. I don't dwell on it and my husband has met my brother, I don't hide my family away because of guilt or any other foolish reason.

A Dirty Job: A Novel | Christopher Moore
Bailedbailed

I couldn't finish this book. I am all for humour but this book totally misses the mark. I don't know how to describe it? It falls flat? Moore tries too hard? I don't know, I just didn't like it, and I did not find it funny or charming. The thing I liked is that the cover glows in the dark. That's pretty rad...

Guys! My book glows in the dark! I love glow in the dark stuff!!! Whaaaat?! So excited about this (I am such a child)!! 😂The pic is so dark, I hope you can see the eerie green glow! I got this book for $2.00 at my local library. All proceeds go to the library, which is rad. 👍🏻 #GlowInTheDark

Good thriller. I couldn't put it down! That being said, the last few chapters really ruined it, it's just not believable and the story became really convoluted...

The Darkest Dark | Chris Hadfield
Pickpick

My son adores this book! He's nearly 2 years old and loves everything repeated like a broken record. I don't mind reading this book to him every single time he asks (which is often!). It is really a cute, semi-autobiographical kid's book about when Chris Hadfield was a lad, watching the Moon landing in '69. It's a wonderful book. The story is inspiring and the illustrations are great!

The book was fairly decent and then it quickly went downhill. The ending, ugh, the ending. It is almost like the author lost interest in writing her own novel and just wanted to finish it as quickly as possible! It left me thinking......."That's it? Where's the rest of the story?"

I had such high hopes for this book. It is so dry and factual, like a textbook...Well researched but the manner in which it is presented can put a reader to sleep! 💤Just read the Wikipedia page on the Salem Witch Trials for an abridged version!

Bookzombie I bailed on this one too. I felt like it was all over the place. 8y

Bride of New France: A Novel | Suzanne Desrochers

Someone recommended this book to me after I mentioned that one of my ancestors was a "fille du roi". Essentially, it was a state funded "program" that gave poor French girls a dowry and a trousseau to settle in New France and marry a man who was already living there. The goal was for them to have children and colonize the territory. It worked really well and French is one of the official languages of Canada!

The novel is pretty decent so far!

Such a good book but the ending totally ruined it!

Mattie's young son dies by the fault of her husband, and having a young son of my own, it literally brought me to tears. I don't know how parents were able to cope with such high mortality rates in children long ago. Her husband loves another woman and he risks his baby's life for this other woman and Mattie forgives him!! She had a way out and she stayed! So disappointed. 😢

I won this novel via a Simon & Schuster giveaway on Goodreads.

The story is good and I think it's well executed. A few sentences really make you think about life, death, and the people you know and love. A few parts nearly brought tears to my eyes. Overall, it's a good story, it could do without all the needless descriptions though, I found myself skimming over a lot of parts.

3 stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Honestly, I didn't like this book. Many people were raving about it, even Ken Burns, and I watched his whole Civil War docu-miniseries. I knew about the battle of Gettysburg going in. I wanted a novel that gives the perspective of the common soldier (a low ranking soldier), I guess I will have to find a non-fic book for that. I don't need a fictitious account of what Lee, Longstreet, or Chamberlain did. History already knows what happened there.

I bought this book two years ago. I started reading it and bailed because I thought it was too boring! I only cared about Holmes' story. It's been sitting on my self, collecting dust, until yesterday. I am giving it another shot. I love it so far! Even the bits about Burnham and the Fair! 🔪💉🎡🏢

Hoo boy, this is a terrible book. The writing is pure nonsense and to think she had a writer to help her with this drivel. I was not expecting Shakespeare but this was painful to read. If you've seen the shows then you already know what happens to Amber and how she got to where she is.

TheApesOfWrath 😂😂😂 8y
adverse It's terrible. 😂 I read Kailyn's book and it was a masterpiece compared to this. It was like Amber just talked into a tape recorder, sent the tape to the writer, & the writer just transcribed it word for word. Amber isn't smart & should not have been given a book deal, 150 pages of pure stupidity! 8y

I found this book while doing genealogy research. My ancestor, Sarah Allen, was taken captive with others, including the author of this book, during the 1704 raid on Deerfield, MA. She was a young girl and was forced to march to Montreal in the dead of winter. What a strong woman she must have been.

Disturbing. I don't care how many people "Mr. Mercedes" has killed, the part I find gross is that he has a sexual relationship with his mother. King is disgustingly graphic about this incestuous relationship. It makes my skin crawl. It isn't the 1st time he touches on this. Remember Sleepwalkers?
