Pickpick

Should a roof over our heads be a right to every citizen? I think most of us would agree that it should be as basic a right as food to eat and healthcare to keep us well. Desmond follows eight families in Evicted and shows as many sides of the story as he can. It was tough listening but so eye opening. Eviction is a cycle that is almost impossible to break. How can we do better?? ⭐️ Audio was fantastic.

BethFishReads Well I'm not sure I would have put this on my list. But I trust you, so on the list it goes (edited) 8y
TriniCapini The narration really helped--think it would have been too heavy reading it. Definitely gives a lot to think about. Won the Pulitzer for NF two weeks ago. 8y

"Dying is one of the few experiences we'll eventually all enjoy firsthand, and like most shit that's commonplace, it's boring to dwell on. [They] showed me it was more interesting to concentrate on the living. Because death is fucking predictable...but life has science experiments and free time and surprise naps and who knows what comes next?" ~ Hazel

Librariana Isn't it just the best!? 😄😍😊 8y
TriniCapini @librariana yes! Hoping Vol 6 comes in from library soon but then will have to wait until 7 is out. Love these characters so much! 8y
Librariana I need to get to Volume 6 myself! Right now, it's Lumberjanes for me 😊 Have you read Brian K. Vaughan's other series - Paper Girls? Loooooove them, too!! 💖💜💛 8y
TriniCapini @librariana I haven't! Will see if my library has a copy. I did read the first Lumberjanes earlier this month. Loved it and hope to get the second Vol soon. 8y

The art of Monstress is really gorgeous but holy cow is this a dark story! It invaded my dreams last night. Also think I need to talk to my librarian about categorizing it as YA. 🙈

Heavy sigh. So much has been weighing on my mind the past many months...as I know it has on yours as well. This book is about he dictatorship of Trujillo in Dominican Republic and there have been so many passages that have struck me. But this is where I keep coming back to. How do we move on? How do we heal? How do we become an undivided nation again? Gonna go refill my coffee before I become paralyzed in fear again. 😞

Second time this week I've been home with a sick babe. This time the littlest. Crawled back in bed with this one while she takes her morning nap. Loving it so far--have you read it??

Godmotherx5 On my TBR. Hope little one feels better. 8y
TriniCapini @Godmotherx5 thanks Tina! If it's like the other two, she'll be better by this afternoon. But goodness I'm ready for the weekend! 8y

I rarely read paper books these days because I mostly read in bed and hate dealing with pesky book lights. I think I finally found the solution! 😂😂👌

Do you have a book light you love?

Dogearedcopy I listened to 'H is for Hawk' last month; and it was my Pick for October! Anxiety NF performance by the author; and great material read :-) 8y
Dogearedcopy * Amazing performance... 8y
TriniCapini @Dogearedcopy I'm not sure I would be as captivated by it if reading it in print but her narration is everything. So so so good. 8y

Dogearedcopy @TriniCapini I absolutely agree! I actually had the print book in hand; but opted for the audio. I think it would have been too easy to skim over parts and lose the internal rhythm of the book if I hadn't gone to audio! 8y

Since giving up twitter, I've lost some venting space. Love when I put down the baby for a nap and the girls are downstairs screaming. 😡 So now I'm dealing with stir crazy kids and a non-napping baby. Without daddy to help. Trying so so so hard to be patient and not yell. A difficult concept I did not understand until I was a parent.

Godmotherx5 Miss you on Twitter. Hope the day improves. 8y
Samantha.1020 I didn't realize you weren't on Twitter but I've been staying away from it as well to be honest. It gets better, I promise :) I remember those days! 8y

SusaninTX It does get better, but man! Those were hard days. I used to try and see how soft I could talk when I wanted to yell...it really got their attention at first. Hang in there! 8y
Chrisbookarama Hugs Trish! It's tough but hold on for the good days. I haven't been on twitter either. I do miss having a place to vent but it's better for my health to stay away. 8y
TriniCapini @BethFishReads @SusaninTX @Chrisbookarama thanks ladies! Slowly making my way back onto twitter but keeping it off my phone. But it has made for good reading time! 😜 8y
irisonbooks Did not know you quit twitter. Gah, I still haven't figured out how to/where to vent when it comes to parenting. So difficult not to respond frustrated sometimes, isn't it? Cue lots of guilt when son says: "I do love you mama, you should not be angry, you should be happy." But then I have to do the angry voice sometimes to make him listen. :-( 8y
TriniCapini @irisonbooks oh well...I've started popping back on twitter during the day...but haven't put it on my phone again. And yes, I know. I've been trying SO hard to speak calmly but sometimes that only goes so far. :( 8y

KristinasFavorites Are they meant to be read in order? 9y
Balibee146 @KristinasFavorites you don't have to read them in order but it might help... There is a story arc with each of the character sets... Like the witch books or the City Watch books but they will work standalone. It took him two or three books to settle into the world... First two are good but the series just gets better and better. I'm a bit envious of anyone getting into them for the first time 😁 5y
